Performance

So we have our first Elevation show with Elevation being the starter in a long time. Elevation rocks off to a great start. Bono not so much. Beautiful Day also suffered from strained vocals. The band is a little late on the Until the End of the World intro, and poor Bono was just so strained with the vocals. New Year’s Day was good, but the concert still hasn’t “elevated” for me. Kite was good, but not as good as what I expected it to be, since the emotional level wasn’t as high as it was after Slane. Gone was alright. I never have dug New York, ever. This concert didn’t change my mind. I Will Follow was the first great song here. Kept the concert alive for me. I must speak my mind and say the pause between IWF and SBS didn’t help. Larry could have started drumming the intro to SBS at the end of I Will Follow. SBS didn’t stand out. In My Life is forgettable, but thanks for me keeping me entertained at the time Bono. Stuck in a Moment was great. Also I haven’t really dug In A Little While, but that’s just me. They did well with it. Desire just doesn’t really work that way. But it was used as a band intro. I liked the intros, but not the song so much. Stay was awesome. Just so intimate and captured the mood. Maybe not the best version, but a highlight for the concert. As for Bad, Bono struggled with the “wide awake” bit. The intro to Streets was alright, but nothing special. Streets was good, not great. MW was ok, but the song just doesn’t work that way. The Fly, one of my favs, played the ultimate way, was not good at all. The intro was too long, and the scream just didn’t work. BTBS was also just iffy. With or Without You wasn’t spectacular either. The backing track gave me a headache. One had its moments, and it was great. Wake Up Dead Man was just as good. Walk On was great, and another highlight for me. The crowd just takes over with Pride. You can’t hear Bono sing the choruses. Quite odd when Larry stopped. Oh well. Then comes the last song, Out of Control. Ok, so Bono fucked up on the first stanza, but whatever. I thought it was still great.

Sound

I’ve got a headache from this show, mainly from With or Without You. I liked it. For a 3 star show, this is perfect placement for it. Sound wise this is for collectors only
Recording: "Losing Control In Turino" - 3.5 stars

Audience

Robert Plant once said “so tonight, we're gonna have a really ecstatic one [show], this is co-dependent on two things: us and you.” The audience was really into this one. Just like the Zoo TV Milan gig (1992-05-22), the crowd was so into the show. Listen as they drown out Bono during the choruses of Pride. The crowd made this one pretty good.

Overall

Highlights

I Will Follow – finally, we got a good one!
Stuck in a Moment – Bono comes back vocally
Stay – Very intimate moment of the concert
One – Bono comes back, again
Walk On – this song is always awesome
Out of Control – love how it closes the show, just as they did with the Boy tour.

Lowlights

New York – I just don’t like the song
In A Little While – never really went anywhere for me
Desire – It just didn’t cut it for me
The Fly – Bono! Why did you try the scream in the intro? Why was the intro so long?

Overall[

As I said, this is for collectors only. Kareem said it best when he said it was die-hards too. It would seem like the perfect show with such a good setlist, but it isn’t. If Bono was vocally spot on my review would be totally different. All I know is I’ve got a headache, and this gig is for collectors and die-hards.
