Performance:
Bono's voice is ravaged. We all know this.
But the band excelled themselves here. Easily one of their best from the entire tour, they were really up for it.
Emotionally, one of the most exquisite shows you will ever listen to.
Audience:
Seeing as the singer had no voice, the band needed a decent audience.
The people of Sarajevo showed why it was worth everything the band went through to do a show here.
Carried the band (well, Bono) whenever it was needed and were hardly shabby the rest of the time. Just look at ISHFWILF/Pride to see what I mean
Sound:
Broadcast.
Perfect.
Overall:
Essential.
Along with Leeds and Mexico 2, this is the representation of the Popmart Tour.
Download now. Burn it to CD. Keep it in the car.

Performance:
Top notch, although Bono's voice is gone. But the lovely audience carries him trough the songs, which gives this show an awesome feel and setting.
Also the fact that U2 played in Sarajevo, a country ruined by war, made it even more special.
Audience:
The audience enjoyed every little second of this show and they let it know. Great sing-a-longs during the entire gig.
Sound:
The last remaster by 'noiseless' did it's job well. The sound already was great, the remaster did the final bit.
Overall:
The best Popmart-gig, and one of the best U2-gigs ever. Download it immediately.

Performance:
The band was in top form this night. Bono's voice was awful but it goes basically unnoticed because of the obvious circumstances. This goes to show that just because a singer is unable to sing, a band can still put on a haeck of a show!
Audience:
Beautiful.
Sound:
Unbelievably Exceptional.
Overall:
Highlights: Bono speaking during ISHFWILF, and noteably Edge sings the chorus of Pride for Bono who could barely talk at that point in the show.

Performance:
My very first review...I hope you like it!
Okay, this gig was probably the most emotional and one of the best gigs of the PopMart-tour. Bono's voice was a bit raw and not really great, but his voice was terrible the entire PopMart-tour IMO....Awesome stuff were Mofo/I Will Follow (really like those two combined!) UTEOTW, BTBS and the ending of LNOE, which was THE highlight of every PopMart-show!
But personally I like PopMart Santiago way better. If you had to choose between those two, I would always choose Santiago, 'cause Bono IS on fire there...
Still a solid 5-star performance!
Audience:
The crowd was unbelievably great, but I got the feeling that South-American audiences are way louder...Still, we're talking Sarajevo in war and that's what makes this boot even more remarkble...
Sound:
Simply great...
Overall:
Highlights: Awesome Mofo/I Will Follow, same for UTEOTW....but THE highlight is SBS>BTBS>Please>Streets. Simply amazing....Probably the best BTBS of the entire tour...Discotheque, Miss Sarajevo, HMTMKMKM and One are very good too
Lowlights: There certainly were a few lowlights. EBTTRT is not cool, same for AIWIY and SATS...
And a personal note: I dislike ISHFWILF....
And the last lowlight was Mysterious Ways. I loved the MW's from PopMart, but this one just didn't 'got' me...
Still a great gig, which you should have listened too...

Performance:
This historical concert was broadcasted on the radio. U2 wanted to play Sarajevo ever since 1993 and it shows. Bono mentions the name of the city in virtually every song and the band, especially Edge, is willing to deliver a remarkable performance.
The show starts out with with a blistering performance of Mofo and until Last night on earth all goes well, the set so far is standard and the crowd is cheerful. Bono's voice seems a little raspy, but nothing distracting...
Then during LNOE his voice just cracks - that doesn't detain him and Edge from bursting out "you gotty give it away" from the top of their lungs, though. One feels transported back in the 80's, when the whole band would yell out the "I can't stop to dance" part of Two Hearts...
The follwing songs, Until the end of the world and NYD have Bono trying to sing softer, trying not to wreck his voice completely.
The performance of Pride is pretty remarkable: Bono speaks the verses and Edge fully-hearted sings the chorus. Before I still haven't found... Bono asks the crowd to help him sing and they enthusiastically fullfill his request. They also take the main voice when Bono starts to snippet Ben E. King's Stand by me.
The following All I want is you shows the pain Bono is going through. He adds a nice snippet of Jimmy Cliff's Many rivers to cross, nevertheless.
After an "accoustic" performance of Staring at the sun Bono goes backstage for medical treatment (cortisone) and leaves the stage to Edge who, instead of his usual Karaoke, delivers a solo performance of Sunday blooday Sunday on the B-Stage. It's the first and only appearance in Europe and the performance will later be released on the "If God will send his angels"-Single.
Miami is skipped and Bono comes back with an amazing performance of Bullet the blue sky. The medical treatment enhances his voice for a while.
Please contains the SBS drum snippet and the "Playboy Mansion" snippet during the Outro of Streets is replaced by Bono saying "Sarajevo" over and over again.
The band leaves the stage with a heartfelt "We wish you peace" only to come back for a top notch performance of Discothèque (Bono snippets 'Life during wartime' by the Talking Heads - terribly cynical).
As usual, the singer brings a girl on stage for If you wear that velvet dress, which contains the "I've got my own hands to pray"- part, and doesn't let her go until the end of With or without you - where his voice cracks again.
The next song is a surprise: Miss Sarajevo makes it full band live debut and Brian Eno joins U2 on stage for the performance. Contrary to some rumours floating around prior to the show, Pavarotti isn't there, pictures of him get shown on the huge screens and an ancient grammophone is placed on the b-stage.
Hold me..., Mysterious Ways and One finally close a remarkable show that has seen Bono losing his voice but Sarajevo getting back it's voice in the world...
Several goosebump moments mark the show and it goes into history as the most relevant show in years.
Audience:
The audience does their best to help Bono through the concert. Even though the majority of the people didn't even come to see especially U2 perform, they sing along with every song and react with huge noise everytime they feel Bono is having problems.
Remarkable moments are during ISHF, Stand by me and the end of mysterious Ways.
Sound:
My review is based on the lossless version of the recording provided by U2start.
It's a remaster of the FM-broadcast. Most versions suffered from some static, clicks and pops, but this version doesn't have them. There's no commercials, jingles or announcers and the stupid disc split between Please and Streets doesn't seem to be there.
Overall:
This is a must have bootleg.
Highlights: Gone, Last night on earth, Pride and One.
The whole show is really emotional and one can feel the special ambiance.
"Lowlight": Together with the opening night in Las vegas, this show gave birth to the myth that Bono's voice was really bad during the Popmart.

Performance:
Phenomenal performance considering the state of Bono's voice. The show started off fantastic with a fantastic rendition of Mofo and thee best performance of Gone i've ever heard then Bono's voice sensationally just cracked. The man was in pain but he thundered through. You could hear the emotion in his cracked voice, he wanted to give the audience it all. Luckily for him, the Edge and the crowd sang what he couldn't. Sunday Bloody Sunday was the big surprise of the night. When everybody was expecting Edge to break into Karaoke he just seeped out that Beautiful rendition of the song. Eerily beautiful. Fantastic
Audience:
Whether they were there that night for U2 or not, they bloody loved it. You could just sense that these people were just enjoying their night out, dancing, shouting and singing along in this little bowl in the midst of their ruined and cracked city. They loved it and perform just aswell as the band. Great great audience.
Sound:
Audio downloaded form here. 'Noiseless' remaster of the original broadcast. It is a fantastic listen. It does sound slightly artificial but other than that all instruments are clear with great thumping bass. Easily a 5/5 recording. If you don't have the remaster then I strongly suggest clicking on the links in the top right hand corner of the page there.

Performance:
The band were inspired. I know that they wanted to play Sarajevo in 1992-1993 and were sure to go during the PopMart tour. From the video snippets I've seen it was one of those ULTRA-Magic U2 shows. It isn't often that one can get Brian Eno to take the stage... but for this - he did. That tells you how special that show was meant to be and ultimately... it lived up to what it was meant to be.
Audience:
The crowd were into the show and seemed elated that U2 came to play there. Listen to the audience just after MOFO... they are losing their minds! I'd have loved to have been there!
Sound:
Pretty good recording. From the radio so maybe a bit compressed and tinny but hardly a bad recording. Enjoyable recording a an ultra-maigical night.
Overall:
Bono's voice was a bit shot. But it's those nights that he gives that much more of his soul... and he gives a lot to start with! It can often be those 'tough' nights when things do come around and the stadium or arena they are in seems to levitate.

Performance:
An excellent show from the most fearless outfit going around at the time. I'm afraid I can't follow the trend of five stars though. Those ratings are reserved for when Bono actually sings every song. His lack thereof in this show is well documented here already.
This show was stunning from the very first note. All the boys were on fire, particularly the Edge. The opening encore is pure U2 magic - it's the highlight of the show, partly because Bono's voice was yet to disintegrate and mainly because it was just oozing with energy and excitement.
This is one of the best versions of Mofo you will find on this site. I Will Follow, Gone and Even Better... deliver in spades and it seemed like we were in for the best performance ever from U2.
Sadly, by the time New Year's Day is played Bono's voice caves in. Pride saw our frontman rivalling William Shatner in the spoken word category, rendering such a classic completely and utterly wanting. Thankfully, this is one of those times when you thank your lucky stars that U2 has the best (yes, THE BEST) back-up vocals in the business, and Edge doesn't hesitate to rise to the occasion and the challenge. Lifting Pride through the chorus and helping the band to re-engage with the audience once again, but he doesn't steal the spotlight until....
Sunday Bloody Sunday! What a solo! What a performance! What an ace to have up your sleeve! It's no wonder the boys decided to stick with this track over Edge's usual karaoke numbers during future Popmart gigs. I daresay, if Bono hadn't been left nearly mute, would we have ever seen this stirring rendition of SBS?
The end of the main set and the first encore are played with its usual gusto. Streets, Discotheque and Hold Me, Thrill Me.... especially impress. Bono's voice seemed to have recovered somewhat towards the end which was nice. Miss Sarajevo was a really nice touch and just reward for a crowd who had waited since ZooTV for the boys to visit. But one really needs to question what value Brian Eno offered here. His back-up vocals were bizarre.
One/Unchained Melody is a great closer to a great concert.
Audience:
Flawless really. It was a logistical (and perhaps political) nightmare to play here but the Sarajevo crowd repaid the band and crew with constant adoration. Some great sing-a-long participation and all round buzz.
Sound:
Professional quality. Perfect. All members can be heard loud and clear and the audience balance was imbeccable.
Overall:
Perhaps the most important concert of the 1990's and this bootleg captures it beautifully. Trust no-one but U2 to make a strong statement by just doing what they do best - play great songs.
Highlights - Shit hot opening set; Streets, stunning encore.
Lowlight - None really, except Bono's voice. One of the reasons why I sometimes choose the Leeds gig over this one.
But for its historical significance, unique venue and all round energy, you can't go past this bootleg as one of the best bootlegs you will ever find of the best band to have ever graced a stage. This show will also go down (at least in my opinion) as Edge's show. Everything he did was just exceptional. He played like a demon and he stepped up when Bono was in trouble vocally - which was a lot. You don't appreciate just how much he is the nucleus of the band until you hear this show.

Performance:
The band put all their best in performing each song of this concert, apart from Bono, whose voice goes away just during the first songs; he gave all his best too, though.
Nevertheless, technically this is not the best. All the emotions around this show make it impossible to be techincally perfect.
Audience:
One of the best ever seen and heard. Simply because they all went into the stadium to give and ask for a message of peace. And it's visible.
Sound:
Perfect. Thanks to the great recording we can now enjoy all the emotions surrounding the show, and feel inside it. Really it's difficult to hope for a sound better than this.
Overall:
Highlights
Some great performances of songs, such as Even Better Than The Real Thing.
The audience.
Miss Sarajevo, performed live for the first time, and greatly.
Lowlights
Bono's voice is the only real lowlights of this show, and it's most visible in songs like Pride and New Year's Day.

they play like there was no tomorrow.... amazing gig... on of my favorites BL's... Bono's voice gives a certain mood to the concert that is beyond words... amazing!!

Awesome performance, even better, cause Bono's voice was broken and made the show uniqe.
Audience:
Great respond, people tired of past events (bombing, shooting...), but they didn't forget how to have a great time with excellent band.
Sound:
Heard it, enjoy it again, and again...
Overall:
As Bono promised, they visited a uniqe city, with mixed population and multicultural enviroment. The city of Sarajevo was simbol of tolerance and coexisting, well, maybe Bono knows that more than others, try to help that COEXIST to be raised again...

Bono starts to loose his voice early in the show.By NYD his voice is shot.He cant even attempt the chorus of Pride..but..for some reason this adds to this classic show.This show bleeds of passion.The Edge pics up for Bono alot,you can hear Edge clearly singing the chorus for Pride.He really showed me alot here..the band are very into it and despite Bonos vocal problems,the band sound great.

Performance:
The band gives an incredibly genuine and powerful performance, I mean they are in general a powerful and genuine band but this is a standout concert for them. Bono's voice is shot which actually, in my opinion makes it even more powerful since his raspy screaming is so raw and emotional, the sound of someone giving absolutely everything. 'One' from this show almost always brings me to tears during Bono's speech at the end, so genuine and hopeful. I have an extreme fondness for the way the Bono uses the beginning of EBTTRT to say some of my favorite things he has ever said (which always sound awesome and badass over the beginning chords of the song), but my all time favorite is from this show: "Viva Sarajevo, fuck the past kiss the future! Viva Sarajevo! Viva Sarajevo!". U2 has written a lot of songs that are powerful regardless of the concert, but 'Please,' 'Streets,' 'Sunday Bloody Sunday,' and 'One' have a greater resonance in this setting. As the band has said it is thing they have done, it is an essential.
Audience:
You could not have a better audience, and since Bono's voice is so shot, he has them sing a lot which adds to the feeling that the show already has as a celebration of survival, unity, and hope for new beginning. They sing their hearts out and the sense of relief and hope is palpable and moving to listen to.
Sound:
Great sound, great to hear the audience so much.
Overall:
U2 at their best, because their is so much emotion in the performance. The band gives everything they have and play/scream their souls out. It is such a moving show, it is thing most essential bootleg for the U2 fan.

Performance:
This was an amazing concert. It was so emotional. Bono's voice may have been off but Sarajevo carried them the whole way through.
Audience:
One of the best audiences of Popmart. When Bono's voice went, they sang the whole way through and didn't stop.
Sound:
Very very good sound. Excellent.
Overall:
This was always going to be an astonishing concert. Emotionally, it was amazing. The audience were the best and the sound was great

Performance:
The lads are trying to do a normal show until "Last Night on Earth", when Bono's voice starts to go, and they almost seem in shock until Bono asks the crowd to sing for him at the start of "I Still Haven't Found" and it's all five stars from there. "Sunday Bloody Sunday" is heart-rending, "Bullet the Blue Sky" is mind blowing, "Please" the emotional high-point and evn though I don't like the Popmart version of "Streets" this is still top notch. The encore is packed with songs I don't normally put in the top drawer of U2 songs, but the raw emotion is incredible, especially during "With or Without You", "One" and "Unchained Melody".
Audience:
Seem beside themselves at the start, and jump into action whenever Bono asks for their help with songs. Deserve an extra star for simply being there, given the circumstances!
Sound:
Generally the sound quality is amazing (I have the noiseless remaster), but during the early part, especially "I Will Follow" there's a weird echo that sounds a bit like when a tape player is chewing a tape, like it's being played underwater. Once that gets sorted out though the sound is magnificent.
Overall:
If, like me, you're only starting your bootleg collection, this is one to grab to understand the sheer emotion that U2 can embody. Maybe grab some others to hear Bono on a good night ("1989-12-26 - Dublin - Point Depot" is the one I have where he's absolutely on fire) but this was a night like no other, when the Seige of Sarajavo ended and U2 squeezed all the emotion out of the crowd and poured it into their music.
Highlights: The passage of "I Still haven't Found" through to "Streets" is non-stop magic... but the whole concert is a step above the usual just by dint of the occasion.
Lowlights: "New Years Day" and "Pride" are rendered almost incomprehensible thanks to Bono's voice going. "I Will Follow" is also the victim of a weird echo and Brian Eno's harmony during "Miss Sarajevo" almost ruin the song sonically, but could never take away from the sense of occasion. All of the above are really just nitpicking though, and no reason not to listen to history being captured and a region's pain and anguish being distilled and poured out into glorious sound
