Performance:
Well apart from being late, the boys put one hell of a show on, no messing 11 o'clock tick tock and away we go, the highlight for me was wire track 3, didnt expect it but it carried us forward and on to the War material a lot better than when we first heard it. electric co always well recieved in edinburgh but no climbing around this time. Pride and the roof came of the old playhouse. overall a great performance from the band. In Remy's review he talks about the start of Gloria, the problem there was i looked like the first 2 rows were on stage the the boys, all in good intent after some careful organising from Bono a few got to remain and sit infront of the drum kit, a brill moment.
Audience:
well as anyone knows the Scots are always up for a good bounce and sing song. The boys gave we recieved and sent them home with our voices ringing in the ears. U2 know what to expect from a Scots crowd and we didn't disappoint. we sang from start to finish, i personally bounced from statr to finish, 40 included.
Sound:
great
Overall:
the only low is they were late, i felt sorry for The Waterboys they gave their all but it was like we didn't want them there. just getting in the way of the Boys, one more obsticle to get out the way. on reflection i supose it could be said that they flew through the set but i think it was not due to the over run but the fact the place was rocking.

Performance:
Great performance of the band during the Unforgettable Fire tour. I think Bono was in good shape though the rest of the band made a few mistakes, which I actually like in concerts. It takes away the 'usual show' label, I love it when something happens like Edge's guitar mistake in Amsterdam in 2005 or the tear gas incident in Paris in 1987.
The first mistake was messing up the intro of Bad (Edge got guitar trouble), which Bono greatly dealt with by improvising a little and then singing a bit of 'Time is on my side'. One of the reason Bad is my favorite U2 song is all the snippets Bono sings during this song, I love it. After a few seconds Edge's guitar was ready again and the band finished the song perfectly. So Bad features a great long guitar intro with a great snippet.
The second 'mistake' (sounds like one) was the intro of Gloria, which is longer than usual, probably because of some technical problem too. Gloria was the song of this show I started listening with high expectations, if I believe my co-crewlid Gerard Gloria is the reason this concert is great. And he is right, Gloria is great and for fans: it lasts more than six minutes!
Overall the band delivered a great performance in Scotland, better than average.
Audience:
The crowd was great this show, even though the loud clapping you can hear a few times is a little out of time. If you love crowd noise during a bootleg you should hear to the end of Pride, they sing this song for U2. Also the intro of Gloria features great participation of the crowd, as well as the usual crowd participation in '40'.
Sound:
This concert deserves it's 4-stars, it's a great audience recording. You can hear the instruments very good and Bono's voice is clear too. Also the audience noise is not too loud but just good for an audience bootleg.
Overall:
Great show, with highlights featuring Bad, Gloria and Bono's amazing voice. The best example of Bono's great voice is during The Electric Co. where he sings the Amazing Grace snippet. It's Bono at his best, I had to playback the song to hear it again.

Performance:
Great...it's The Unforgettable Fire, it's Scotland...it's U2...what else do you want? Some very good performances changed with some standard ones. I prefer the other night in Glasgow, but this one comes close. Gloria is the standout, the typical UF-songs like TUF, Bad and ASOH are good too. Seconds en Two Hearts are there to complete the party.
Audience:
Scottisch people are good to party with, and they let you know that.
Sound:
Good and solid. Sometimes too much of audience noise and Larry is sometimes slightly distant, but very solid overall.
Overall:
A good one, if you're keen on UF-shows, download it immediately!

Performance:
O.k. A lot of comparisons have been made already on this site between this gig and the following night in Glasgow. To me both of them are worthy Unforgettable Fire shows. In several ways, they each have their own atmosphere, energy and character. My tip is to just download away and enjoy both of them for their own characteristics and high points.
This was a typical TUF setlist which was fairly entrenched by the time the tour made its way through Europe after some experimenting in Australia. The boys pound out their bread and butter numbers 11 O'Clock Tick Tock and I Will Follow to really get the gig and crowd going from the outset. As I said in a previous review, at the time they were an energetic band clearly proud of and excited about their new material. The next three numbers are from the TUF album and the boys perform them in a way that immediately suggested that the audience had caught them on a very good night. Wire in particular is played very well here. Edge is spot on!
The gig continues in a similar vain through the three War songs before we are treated to another stirring rendition of A Sort Of Homecoming. Honestly, I never tire of this song. I've always enjoyed the TUF renditions of Sunday Bloody Sunday and this one was no exception.
But it pales in comparision next to the concert giant that is The Cry/The Electric Co. What a song and what a performance! It's little wonder that U2 constantly turned to this song to immediately excite a crowd throughout the early 80's and more recently on the last tour. It always went off and the audience would lap it up as they did on this night.
We had a typically energetic New Year's Day and Pride to wrap up the main set and pave the way for an impressive encore with Party Girl being my highlight here. Unlike others I didn't find the cock up during Gloria entertaining at all. On the contrary I felt it detracted from an otherwise flawless encore.
Audience:
You've gotta hand it to the Scots. They know how to enjoy a U2 show. Their interaction and participation really shine on this boot!
Sound:
I laboured over whether to actually give this 3.5 or 4 stars. In the end, it's probably a genuine 4 star. All instruments are heard. However, at times a bit of 'muffle and fuzz' can be detected which detracted slightly from the boot. It's about on a par with the Glasgow gig on the 6th.
Overall:
I recommend this bootleg for those wanting to capture U2 in full flight during their TUF period. They were in a really great phase here. They were excited about their TUF material and performed tracks from their previous three albums with loads of enthusiasm. Bono in particular was in true showman form, playing up to the crowd at every opportunity and Edge was on song (well, when isn't he really?)
Highlights
A Sort of Homecoming - It's simply amazing and it doesn't matter whether its the early manifestations which are very similar to the album version or the latter performances from 1985 onwards which are more departures and like the Wide Awake In America version. I simply adore both!
The Cry/The Electric Co. - Reasons above.
Wire - Not a huge fan of this song but on this particular night, the boys nailed it!
Lowlights
Gloria screw up - I don't care if it was different or funny or whatever. I didn't enjoy it. Give me Gloria played proficiently any day!
(This is a picky one) Bad - It was played well here, don't get me wrong but we would have to wait until the second half of the TUF tour before the band recognised the value in having snippets towards the end of Bad.
Overall, a worthy 4-star rating. A really good boot to have in your collection.

Performance:
Good for the most part....."Bad" was pretty awful, as the synth track and the rest of the band weren't matched, but they plowed through it regardless. I also found the synth part (not the one Edge plays, the other one) during "The Unforgettable Fire" to sound like an elephant was sitting down on the keyboard.
Audience:
Pretty top notch, if you ask me. Love hearing them sing along to the songs.
Sound:
No major problems. Everyone can be heard, and the sound is particularly strong for it being as old as it is....
Overall:
Highlights: TUF, ASOH, Pride, THBAO, Seconds
Lowlights: Gloria, Bad

Performance:
Awesome performance, every song is played with so much passion. Especially Larry is on fire and Bono's voice is unbelievably great. Adam and Edge are very good too. Still, thanks to a few songs it doesn't deserve a 4.5 IMO...
Audience:
Almost as good as the Slane DVD
Sound:
Good sound, sometimes it's a bit unclear, but overall it's great.
Overall:
Just a great gig. Great performance, great sound, great audience, great everything.
Highlights: SBS, TUF, Two Hearts, TEC and New Year's Day. BUT THE highlights are Bad and the encore, especially Gloria. The show ends with a beautiful 40.
Lowlights: Not really lowlights, but I was a bit dissapointed about 11 O'clock, I Will Follow, Wire and Surrender.

Performance:
All the passion of War with better vocals. The band and especially Bono had some fire this evening. Bono gave this gig some effort and it just delivers a fantastic listening experience. The passion is unreal. It's like 'Boy' era Bono but somehow slightly more mature. Larry had a great night and Adam and Edge were as spot on as ever. Nailed it. Gloria is a huge standout. Theres a glitch mid way through where the band feck the timing up and Bono has to count them in again and the whole song just clicks. Fantastic energy and enthusiasm.
There was a technical hitch during Bad which was a bit of a downer but Bono hides it with some nice improvised lines. The War songs were top top notch and The Electric Co was its usual standout self.
Excellent all around.
Audience:
Powerful. Great voice and gusto. Listen to the reception for SBS. The whole building shakes. From start to finish they were just unreal. This always seems to boost Bono, he feeds of their energy. These guys were good.
Sound:
A sensational audience recording. Perfect balance of band, vocals and crowd. How the taper managed this at such a noisy gig I do not know but this gig delivers. It packs a great punch and does a fantastic job of delivering the atmosphere of that evening straight to your ears or filling up your room. A classic
Overall:
Fantastic snapshot of the early (and much much better) UF gigs. The band were enjoying their work that evening and the crowd even more so and this recording makes you feel like you were there. Definitely a top 5 Unforgettable Fire gig

Performance:
By the end of 1984 the band were really finding their peak performing. This tour, and the Joshua Tree period, are my favorites. Bono really started to have some confidence in his voice. You can hear that confidence in the performance of UF and Bad, from this gig.Hes singing, not yelling.Back then,Bono had a very powerfull voice.Bad has a breakdown at the start, but Bono does some great improvising while Edge changes guitars.I saw the band 5 times on The Unforgettable Fire tour. This show, with Dortmund 11.21.84 ,NYC 04.01.85 and NJ 04.15.85 are the best from that tour.
Audience:
Sound very good, but they are in and out from this recording.
Sound:
This show is exactly 25 yrs old.Considering that, this is very good. You have alot of that "bootleg tin" sound, but Adams bass is clear. That saves the sound.Bonos voice is up front.A solid 4.Much better than most of the other bootlegs with the same ratting. The Dortmund gig and Montreal gig sound much, much better. But,this show is so good, you can deal with the tin sound.
Overall:
Great show.Surrender,Two Hearts,Bad ,UF,EC (with no cuts),ASOH,40.This is classic U2.Vintage.You dont have any "remix" versions here.Thank God.This is the REAL U2.The great U2.The U2 I fell in love with when I was 16 in 1983.No gimmicks here. Then,it was all about the MUSIC.The 4 of them ,on a small stage. You didnt see Bono dressed up like a Devil,no 50 foot Lemon,no Village People outfits,no 250 foot claw.I paid $15 for my seat, sec 338 MSG,NYC,04.01.85.My how the times have changed.Indeed.

Performance:
I absoutely loved this bootleg. A reason for downloading it was because it's my hometown. I step out of my house, get a bus and can go straight to Edinburgh Playhouse. I wish I was born to see this performance because it was outstanding just from listening to it. It shows that they were always good at doing live. "Live is where we live" which was once said by Larry Mullen and he's absoutely correct.
When Sunday Bloody Sunday came on, everyone went bonkers! The crowd were insane and they had every right to be because this performance was sublime.
Audience:
All I can say is that it was a Scottish crowd and they go crazy at any concert, especially when it's a U2 concert! You can tell that absoutely everyone who was there loved this!
Sound:
The sound wasn't perfect but it was excellent. Good enough to hear's U2 astonishing Edinburgh performance!
Overall:
I really enjoyed this bootleg. I could easily feel this was from Edinburgh, just by listening to it.
