Performance notes: Live debuts of Zoo Station, The Fly, Even Better Than The Real Thing, Mysterious Ways, One, Until The End Of The World, Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses, Tryin' To Throw Your Arms Around The World, Ultra Violet, and Love Is Blindness. First time U2 covered Satellite Of Love in full, though Bono had snippeted it a few times during Bad in the 1980s. Bullet The Blue Sky and Desire are distinctly different to past live versions. The former is even more hard-rocking than it was on the Joshua Tree and Lovetown tours and features a longer solo. The latter has completely different guitar effects, and during the song, Bono plays the role of Mirrorball Man, a parody of US televangelists.

Performance

Tonight's show in Lakeland is in my opinion one of the most interesting U2 shows they have ever performed in their live career. Not only is this the "new" U2 presenting themselves to the entire world with this live performance but, we also get the first-ever live renditions of songs from the Achtung Baby album.

In this performance we also see the new material having different arrangements when compared to later shows on the Zoo TV Tour, the most noticeable one here being Even Better Than The Real Thing which is keyed down unlike the later versions with the higher key, some other changes include the different guitar solo on Mysterious Ways, a slightly different arrangement for Wild Horses and a different intro arrangement for Ultra Violet along with some newer arrangements for Bullet The Blue Sky, Running To Stand Still and Desire.

And while this performance may not be the best performance that U2 has ever done, mainly as well due to this being the first night of the tour, it's awesome to hear how the original concept of the tour was and, there are some pretty good moments throughout such as Bono's ad-libs and most of the performance being enjoyable even if the band still sound like they're unfamiliar with the newer material in spots.

Overall

Overall, this show is quite a historic one for U2's entire live performing career, with this being just the beginning of a fantastic tour all around. Despite the performance having moments where Bono forgets words or flubs them and the fact that no songs really transition into each other yet (particularly on the newer Achtung Baby material at the start) it's nice to hear newer arrangements on songs such as Desire and Bullet The Blue Sky overall, definitely a show you should listen to for the tour, even if it has its flaws.
