1. This is my first post since... wow, years... so, here it goes.

I've been thinking for quite a while about this new tour and, obviously, the new album... and, well, I can't help but think about a new release related to their actual live performance and all of the possibilities involved.

I have all of their concerts, both in DVD and Blu-Ray and I have to admit it, probably, in terms of sound quality they're all pretty da·$& equally good, especially the DTS-HDMA track from the 360. But even with that, if you can encode the sound directly to your 5.1/7.1 receiver, if you have one of course, the direct sound from the DTS and Dolby tracks is quite remarkable, which led me to think, well, that aspect it's completely covered, what about video?

It is sad to say this, but the Blu-Ray for the 360 tour seems to be directed by an amateur, which also led me to the conclusion that his work was so, SO horrible that the guy in charge of color grading did what he did because of that. I remember seeing their live broadcast via YouTube, and even that looked better than the final Blu-Ray release.
Don't get me wrong, there are some good clean images from time to time, but it's like if the director didn't realize what he wanted to achieve, going from a pixelated image (YES, pixelated, particularly, just to name one, at the beginning of Mysterious Ways, that take is utterly awful) to one full of film grain, which is great, if you're using an old camera, or filming a drama, not a rock & roll concert from the biggest band in the world....

It's something that I can't even begin to understand. They don't have troubles with money, they can use better directors.
They can afford OUTSTANDING piece of technologies, like they've proven all of these years.
I'm thinking all the time... what's my favourite DVD/Bd release, in terms of video quality? (that includes editing, takes, color grading, menues, etc, etc)

What's your favourite? And what do you think about their new show? It's surely going to be amazing to see that in 4K or in Full HD with some linear and dramatic shots, walking just beneath the screen to see the band with the light bulb in all its glory....

(PLEASE, for the love of God, use a Sony F65 for that)

I'm a director, that's the main reason why it annoys me SO much to see, without a doubt, their 360 concert "ruined" in so many ways by the kind of release they did...

    Regards.
    Eager.
  2. The Rose Bowl release is ruined from the very same moment they choose to omit Breathe and kick directly with Get On Your Boots.
I must have watched it in full maybe once in my life. Maybe not even once. Virtually any multicam of the tour is better than the official release. So lame.
  3. I know this isn't quite what you asked, but the video quality of the Slane DVD is so horrendous at times I can hardly believe it. Best show, best performance, best crowd...but damn it aint pretty.

Favorite, visually, is probably Chicago. Has a lot to do with the stage design though, which I'm a big fan of.
  4. Slane has its charm. The visual mediocrity fits the show and the ambience. But Rose Bowl? It was meant to be the ultimate visual production of the ultimate tour... And no no no.
  5. The Rose Bowl is a complete misrepresentation of the magic of the 360 Tour
  6. Absolutely.
  7. Thank god I'm not the only one who thinks this kind of things
I'd have to agree MattG, Chicago is probably my favourite too. The ZooTV is horrendous visually, but I can deal with it taking into account his age, and in a "similar way" I can say the same with PopMart...
I mean, they all SOUND amazing. Particularly the DTS track, it's staggering.
But honestly, what they were thinking when they mixed 4 images in one frame during the 360? You can even say it's okkkkkkkkk at the end, during Moment of Surrender, but c'mon! An image from the screen, one from the Edge, one from the crowd.... It is absolutely unbelievable.
I remember U23D for example, and the beginning was pretty good. The trailer was amazing, the tension, suspense and anticipation it was remarkably done, but again, the mix of images from different countries left me pretty cold. The 3D was amazing, but the shots were meeeee from time to time.
I love Catherine Owens, but she did some pretty nasty takes too...
Oh, by the way, does any of you expects U23D to be released sometime in the future? I'm dying to get that 3D Blu-Ray

    Ps: Thanks for answering guys
  8. An HD rip (not a screen capture) from Yahweh 3D appeared on Youtube a few months ago out of nowhere. Nobody knows where it came from or if the whole thing exists, but it sure looks awesome:

  9. I saw that. It is honestly amazing... which led me to think, is the release close to become a reality? I've heard various rumors about it, NG talking that it was about to enter into production a few months ago....
I don't know what to think.

Has any of you seen the concert that The Killers released on BluRay? That should be the minimum in terms of video quality to ANY Bd release nowadays. The sound, I think, it's even more impressive than the one in the 360. Which is saying A LOT.

Do you mean the Royal Albert Hall DVD? It looks and sounds terrific indeed. Although it's an indoor and pretty small venue, I guess from a direction standpoint it's easier to make a great film out of that rather than a big ass stadium like Rose Bowl?
  11. My favorites are Boston and slane...vertigo is really good ,but I cant watch or list to sydney....the drums just sound too flat for me...

    So true.
Chicago and Anaheim were less impressive shows. Yet according to the band, the latter was an "amazing experience that made us rush straight into the studio..."

    Hence, the 4 year wait.
