1. I was thinking...
Except Slane Castle I totally dislike all of U2's live video releases. When I watched the Boston Eleveation DVD back then it was the first time I thought I get motion sickness from a concert video and I have seen hundreds. It was like watching a MTV video. Who can watch 2 hours of fast paced edits and not get motion sickness?

Bercy night 3 will be broadcasted on TV, hopefully HDTV. So, we will have a pro-shot video document from the tour, if it's good or not...we'll see but if it's in HD it could be perfect to mix it with AUD shot footage. Also we will have audio from the soundboard and that alone will propably be what most other multicams from this tour will lack: Good sound.

Having a pro-shot with multiple viewing angles mixed with shots from the audience is what makes a live video document nice in my opinion. More and more bands put their professional camera men inside the pit to capture the fan's view. They propably all did some youtube research! ;-) The first press video kit from the I+E tour I have seen (that behind the scenes thingy from Vancouver) showed some real promising footage. I noticed one angle from the seats left to the stage. That is a rare thing for a pro-shot but a nice view in my opinion. I have good faith for a pretty good official live video document from the Bercy show. But mixed with multiple excellent AUD shots it can be brought to a whole new level.
Here's one specific video where I mixed our shots with pro-shot fotoage:

Actually, 80 percent of the video is AUD shot and you can hardly tell the difference in quality.
I am going to record both Cologne shows to get to know my new 4k camera under "difficult" conditions to be prepared for Paris night 3. Night 4 is the only show I have seats for. I might leave my camera, I might not. I only recorded one show in my life so far from the seats and that video turned out to be amazing. So, maybe it will be four shows I completely record (if there won't be issues with the security).
I was thinking of shooting in 24p to create the first AUD shot multicam blu-ray disc with progressive picture and not interlaced picture but I will go for 25p since most people shoot in 1080p/50 and the TV broadcast will most propably be in 1080i/25 and having all sources in PAL makes the conversion better. I will do a mp4/mkv in 1080p/25 then and a blu-ray video disc in 1080i/25.

I know Remy, official material is not allowed to be torrented. But I hope you can leave the thread open so everyone who wants to participate in this project can send me a pm. I will distribute copies of the final multicam to anyone who participates in these projects with no restrictions what people do with it.
  2. I love Red Rocks, Sydney, Chicago & Slane. The rest are pretty hard to watch.
  3. Sounds like a nice idea
  4. I will distribute copies of the final multicam to anyone who participates in these projects

Does this mean a free download link or will you send free copies?
    Do you only want 4K-video?
  5. So let me get this straight:

You want to make money (forbidden) by using official footage (forbidden) and mix it with amateur footage shot by fans (which unlike you will remain unpaid)?

Just a plain answer will serve, otherwise this thread will be closed and we will discuss a few things over PM. Thanks.
  6. wait a minute..... " Bercy night 3 will be broadcasted on TV" ?? Cool!
  7. I will not upload this anywhere because of the official material. I will not sell the video. Not to anyone. This is a private project of mine that you can hop in and be part of. I thought I explained it clearly that I will distribute copies to participants in this project and those who get a copy from me can do with it what they want. No restrictions.
You can hop in by sending me footage from that show (minimum let's say 8 complete songs in good quality) and you wlll get in return the full video in a format of your choice: blu-ray video disc 1080i/25 or as mkv in 1080p/25 (most propably that is the format I am going for). I am going to shoot myself in 4k. All my recent shoots have been in 4k but I always produce in 1080p to have cropping/zooming options in post production and not lose any quality. I will except 1080p sources only.
If you have a good reputation here or you know anyone of my friends who can vouch for you I can even lend two 4k cameras to 2 people who have a good record and know how to handle a camera.
@LikeASong: who said I was going to sell any U2 video? I offered to share multiple of my upcoming multicam projects for free, remember?
  8. Nobody said, that's why I was asking. That's a VERY nice change from your usual modus operandi regarding other artists' bootlegs

So you will burn and send copies for free (except blanks & shipping costs, obviously) to everyone that contributes?
  9. @LikeASong: I offered this quite some months ago.
I can do a U2 multicam project for free because a) the shows are not so long compared to that other guy's shows B) I will only concentrate on high quality sources so the syncing/editing etc. work will be much less. For some Springsteen shows there were some songs where it was 16 different camera angles I had to deal with. For many shows it was a constant 9-12 angles throughout. You can imagine the amount of work...
I don't think it will happen at any U2 show that so many high quality sources see the light of day and get shared (there are still many folks who don't share, remember?) but it is not neccessary for Bercy night 3. We have a pro-shot as the foundation for this video project. I will record the whole show in 4k from the floor (If I succeed) and hopefully one person records "the whole picture" from the stands. Then by adding a couple more high quality AUD shots I am sure it is safe to say that this will be the best U2 live video from this tour. I might also record audio at the show. If the broadcast audio lacks atmosphere I can do a sbd/aud mix.
I will record David Gilmour tomorrow from the seats and then two U2 shows completely from GA for knowing which position is good (I already have one in mind) and to get to know my newest "mobile" 4k camera. And then it can all come together (keeping fingers crossed) in Paris: A HDTV broadcast, a complete GA shoot in 4k and some additional angles and Voilà!

PS1: yes, I will do copies to participants for blanks and postage. that is what I have been doing ever since.

PS2: If you would be aware of the amount of time and money I invest into a Springsteen multicam project and if you would have seen the outcome I am sure that even you would feel different regarding what I do. Some things can't be done for free.
  10. been to David Gilmour yesterday and took my new camera and did some test shooting:

man, those little 1080p compact cameras are so outdated ;-)
I was thinking of bringing my old Sony HX20V in case I get in trouble with my 4k camera but well...either I do a good shoot or no shoot. It's 2015.
  11. I wanted to do the same thing with Rose Bowl, I used the IEM/Matrix sound. I got pretty far, but never finished the project..
