I tried to post this text on the official U2 board but,
apparently, the moderator did not allow it to be
published and visible. I re-post a large fragment.
As many of you probaly know, Bono recently talked
about the situation in Hungary and Poland. Well,
Hungary and Poland were harshly criticised for.....
“hypernationalism” and weakening the unity of Europe.
Considering the 30s and the attack of the hitlerist
Germany on Poland, the war and everything, then the
invasion of CCCP, and finally the conference in Yalta,
the Betrayal of the West and the fall of the Iron Curtain,
that cut away the Central and Western Europe from the
Free World, suggesting that Poland is being disloyal
and that it contributes to weakening the unity of the Old
Continent is EXTREMELY arrogant and inappropriate.
If Bono allows himself to be so critical of Poland and its
“intolerance”, I wonder what he has to say about the
infamous koranic Ayat of the Sword? I, and not only me,
am also quite curious of Bono’s comments on:
1) female genital mutilation (i.e. removing of the clitoris,
among others) that has been practised in the Muslim
countries to deprive females of sexual pleasure
2) the legality of marriages and sex of adult Muslim men
with female kids
3) the fact, that according to the Muslims themselves
Islam is not compatibile with the Declaration of Human
Rights
4) the fact, that accoriding to Muslims, those who reject
Islam are “the worst of the creatures” (Qur’an 98:6) and
deserve no mercy
5) the fact that, according to the Muslims, all those who
oppose Muhammad and his followers in any way (sic!)
deserve a humiliating death, by decapitation, if only
possible
6) the fact that the holy book of Muslims, the Qur’an,
ostensibly demands the killings of Jews, Christians and
other infidels, and has been because of it frequently
compared to…. Mein Kampf
7) the fact that, even today, many Muslims adore Adolf
Hitler and claim that he was a lot like their beloved prophet
Muhammad, whose example the Muslims want to imitate
and emulate all the time….
If what Poland does is “lack of tolerance” and
“hypernationalism” then what is and how should we call
all I have briefly hinted upon above?

The argument two posts back is completely fallacious. Bono's criticism of Poland, to which he is perfectly entitled, doesn't entail that he approves of genital mutilation, decapitation etc. In fact, the overwhelming majority of muslims is against those things. Treating all muslims as if they were terrorists, genital mutilators etc. exactly plays into the narrative of those terrorists according to whom the West is against muslims in general.
In any event, Mr or Ms Nationalist's post has nothing to do with Bono. Most importantly, it assumes that 1.6 billions muslims are dangerous terrorists and genital mutilators. Mr or Ms Nationalist should apologise, or else be banned from this website.
Any book (like the bible) written centuries ago is against human rights. Still, most people choose to follow a secular moral compass based on love and respect. I'm proud to have friends of many different creeds or lack of them and they are not the bigots others want us to believe. So thanks, you just reinforced Bono 's point.
