  1. Living in Canada I have grown up as a huge Tragically Hip fan. For those not familiar with the band they are Canadian and have been around since 1984. The Hip have never made too big of a splash in the United States and the world so they have always been our own.

    Recently, their lead singer Gordon Downie has been diagnosed with an incurable form of brain cancer named glioblastoma. So the band decided to group together this past summer and play 15 shows throughout Canada which I was lucky enough to catch their 2nd show in Toronto. The last concert was televised live on the CBC from their hometown of Kingston Ontario a couple of weeks ago.

    The cool thing about the setlist for the shows is that they performed songs off seven (7) of their thirteen (13) albums each night grouped together as follows:

  6. I tried to keep some narrative and energy flowing, this ain't easy at all! I first started with a secquence of Achtung > TUF > Pop > SOI for the first half but then I turned it into a 90s / 00s first half, 80s second half. NOT EASY!! hahaha

    Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah plays, as muted colours and unfocused patterns slowly blend across the screens; after about two minutes The Beatles' Hard Day's Night begins, and the colours and patterns become more bright and focused; more songs begin coming in, all playing over each other: David Bowie's Let's Dance, The Who's My Generation, The Police's Synchronicity II, Elvis Presley's Marie's the Name, Michael Jackson's Thriller, Ramones' Glad To See You Go, The Clash's Rock the Casbah, Prince's When Doves Cry, Rossini's William Tell Overture, and probably others, it's too hard to tell - as each new song comes in, the images on the screen become more colourful, quick, erratic, with scary-looking forms quickly swishing through the patterns; as the first note of Last Night On Earth is played, the image on screen coalesces suddenly into an image of Earth, which begins to crack and fall away in pieces as the song begins
