1. As this year comes closer to its end, feel free to share your own personal highs and lows of the year.
Whatever comes to mind, no matter how important or trivial - throw it in, U2 related or not, linked to music, job, vacation or the odd thing from every-day-life, well thought through or randomly crossing your mind.... share if you like
  2. Okay then.

My year has been a more than pretty good, sans the the loss of musical talent and wisdom this year.
Bowie's death made the most impact on me. That And Leonard Cohen.
    BUT,

I read early this year that 2016 is the year of the monkey (chinese zodiac signs)- *GASP*,
Which happens to be my zodiac, And have to say: It really delivered!

    Blessed since:
My year consists of travelling to Iceland with a firend, seeing the northern lights and standing inside a glacier Ice cave. So bad ass. Whilst I was there I got the call back from my current employer that I was hired for the position I aplied for. Moved to a new country (okay... Belgium ws only 1 hour away from me anyway, who cares.)

I basically started over from scratch there, and now have my first own appartment,
    - rental and with a shitty shower, so there is room for improvement. But still. Its something.

Twenty One Pilots in Brussels takes the cake for best show of the year. What a an amazing show.

I've left a lot of shit behind me and here's to hoping that will continue next year.I Still have a lot to work on.
  3. Sounds like you've had a really defining year, Joyce.

I don't know how to describe my year. I guess the highlight of my year would be getting onto the first step of the career ladder. To get myself through university for the second time, I worked at a local convenience store which was alright, but since the takeover of that business in June I had been looking for a way out. I graduated university in June, with a rather disappointing 2:1, but I at least had something to use. I decided I would help the new owners settle in, because that's what I'm like. But by October I'd had enough, so I handed my notice in and set about looking for a job. I had one interview, for a job that I really wanted, on the 20th of October and got called back for a second interview on the 21st. I finished the shop on the 23rd, and started work as a Software Developer on the 31st. So it was a quite a whirlwind month. I love the job and every day there is something challenging to work on which is exactly what I was looking for.

But I feel that as good as that may be, this year has still been somewhat dull. Last year I experienced so many amazing things, thanks partly to U2 being on tour. This year I haven't done a great deal, while other people around me seem to be having the times of their lives. Next year though I want to make sure that on the last weekend of every month I get out and do something fun. Whether it's a little weekend away somewhere new, or experiencing something closer to home.
  4. Really nice hearing how peoples years have been, looking forward to reading many more. This has been a good one for myself, nothing drastic has happened in it to me personally, but last year I went through a real rollercoaster with the birth of my daughter being followed two and a half weeks later with the death of my papa. My future mother in law also ended up with nerve damage that left her in a position where she would likely never walk again and kept her in hospital for a year and a half. Fast forward to now and my mother in law is managing to walk, finally got out of hospital on October and has her own new house nearby. My daughter turned 21 months today and it's been amazing seeing her grow up. We had our first family holiday to Gran Canaria in June which was excellent and my fiancé and I had a weekend break in London to catch les Mis and American idiot the musical which was nice as it brought back nice memories of when I took her there for her first birthday since we were together. Going into next year on a positive and for the first time in a while I can say I'd take this year all over again.
  5. Really great in the first 6 months... really awful at last 6
  6. haven't worked all year due to anxiety and, other relationship issues a terrible year but there's always worse off people in this big beautiful cruel world, finished off the year going to a coldplay concert with the wife so I'm grateful for being able to wake up in morning.
  7. Good and bad, I suppose. I'd consider most of this year a write-off.

I consider myself a creative person and I didn't do much to forward myself in that area of my life. I kept on planning things and putting them off (recording, writing, etc.) and at the end of the year I don't have much to show for it. I put off getting back into swimming, getting a bit more into cooking, etc. I put off quite a bit this year, and I need to be more proactive in the new year.

Besides that though, I secured a full-time job that has fantastic career potential, I lost a fair amount of weight (which was a goal for this year) and my girlfriend and I are FINALLY getting a dog after waiting for one to be available from the breeder we chose back in April (we get him this Friday!).

So, ups and downs for me on a personal level. The year itself has been sort of shit outside of that in my opinion. Lots of musical talent lost, Trump, etc. At least Rogue One is coming out this week to cap things off with a positive spin

Here's to hoping 2017 is better, folks. I get the feeling 2016 was sort of shitty for a lot of people.
  8. Great first 8 months, nice internship which resulted in finishing my study, having a good time with friends etc. and great roadtrip through the USA with a good friend.

But the last 4 months have been shit. Mainly because of the fact I've fallen into some kind of black hole when it comes to looking for a job, not knowing what I want, not finding anything really interesting, the fear of getting into something I don't like etc.
  9. the worst in my life like 1991
  10. 2016 has been shit in many regards.

Only really positive highlight has been getting a new job which will allow me to quit my previous one soon (I hope).

    Here's to a much, much better 2017:

  11. I saw a Piano & Microphone show, a year after seeing an Innocence & Experience show so pretty good.
