Comments:
To this date still U2's one and only concert in Israel or anywhere in the Middle East took place in September 1997, 20 years ago, in Tel Aviv, Israel. We are blessed with a soundboard recording from the final show of the European leg of the Popmart tour, with particular highlights such as Please (some argue the best of the tour), Miami and Velvet Dress.
When Pop came out the track I was most disappointed with (there were a few!) was Miami, a tune I really thought belonged on Passengers or the b-side of a single. When I heard it live on that tour, however, it made a little more sense to me and version at this Israeli show is outstanding - by far the best.
This show is one of my favourite soundboard recordings and I prefer it to Sarajevo, Leeds or even Mexico.
For many many years I used to despise this show due to political reasons and its virtual lack of any audience sound...
But thanks to this Show Of The Month I have given it a new chance after (probably more than) a decade and it sounds better than I recalled Tight performance, probably among the 10 best performances on the tour. Even BONO'S VOCALS are decent (something specially remarkable being a soundboard where all mistakes are magnified)
