1. If theres any people with decent knowledge of computers any help would be appreciated. I switched my laptop on a few days ago and was greeted with an error message. the message was only there for 30 seconds so I scrawled down what I could on a piece of paper. Something about 'not being able to connect to my local network for security reasons and something about an INPO I think. After 30 seconds the error message dissapears and my computer starts its setup but logs me on to a temporary user account from which I have no access to any of my files (including bootleg collection!). I shutdown and restarted the computer and same temporary account but no error message. All my physical memory is still stored on the Hard Drive but I still have no access to my files. Any thoughts??

Do you have a boot disk? If so you should be able to safe start (limited access, low colours) but it should get you in to your section. I'm afraid I'm a bit out of touch with PC's as I'm on a Mac now but I seem to remember doing this.

Can't remember how you safe start (I know the disc has to be in the drive when you boot up) but I assume you still have internet access if you're in the forum so try a Google search for "safe start on a PC" or something - it should come up.

Alternatively try that whole error message in Google - loads of computer forums seem to come up and they may have an idea.

Hope this may be of some help.

  5. thanks very much again. im actually using the house computer. i had my own laptop. damn near 200 bootlegs on there. I just hope that i can remove all the physical memory from the hardrive in some way. Id rather have the boots than the computer. thank you
  6. enabled safe mode and its let me access my account. no access to files though and i dont kno where to go from here. anyone know how I can maybe do a master reset or something like that? just wipe everything and start from the start again bcuz i miss my bootlegs. if i need to restart my collection id rather do it sooner rathe rthan later
  7. My guess is you're using Windows XP or Vista and that the local user account data has been corrupted. Home or Pro edition? If anything, it could require a low-level format, which you may have to restart your boots collection.

In Safe Mode, try using Administrator mode unless you put a password. You should be able to access everything there. What is the actual message, then I can help you.
  8. I think you have to LogIn as the Administrator (on Safe Mode) and then make a DVD Back Up or something like that...
My user also crashed some time ago, and I Logged in as the administrator (on safe mode) and then i could make a backup wih Nero. Maybe you should try it...

yea im using home edition. i didnt have time to jot the error message down but it definatley mentioned a corrupt local profile. i'll try the safe mode administrator. thank you all again
  10. There's a file called ntuser.dat, that would be the likely corrupted file. It's happened to me, I logged in as Admin or used a copy of bootable Linux and backed everything up. Nothing lost.

Of course, you must make sure you back everything up. Numerous utilities exist for this kind of stuff and you can just drag-drop files into Windows Explorer using the built-in DVD burning app.
  11. wen i log in on safe mode as administrator i still cant access my files. will it still be possible to back everything up?
