1. I've noticed with a few of the videos i've downloaded that the audio quality is much much better than the corresponding bootleg. Most notably - 1986-06-15. The video has much better sound quality. Is there some sort of loss in quality when extracting the audio from the video?
  2. You said it all. The bootlegs whose sound is extracted from a video (and is not a recording itself) lose sound quality...You were right!

That's not true. A proper audio rip has the same quality as the audio stream of the video.
There might be several reasons why the sound of the mentioned audio bootleg is inferior to the sound of the video:

    1. The audio rip wasn't done properly
    2. The audio bootleg is sourced from a higher generation video than the video germcevoy has.
    3. The audio was transcoded
  5. the bootlegs from here and the video's from Spiral

Well, maybe the Professional Video Rippers keep the quality as the video's one, but the most usual is to lose quality.
I know it just because I rip all my videos to compare with the boots...

Do you have lineage for your boots?

For aproximately the 40% of them (the ones got from u2torrents). Evidently I have no lineage for the ones got here...

Actually every Videop ripping program keeps the same quality as the original audio stream.
But if, for example, you rip the original pcm audio stream as mp3, you shouldn't be surprised that the quality decreases.
