1. 11 years later I saw Sting at the same venue as I did in 2006 (setlist). Press pass made up for some good photos too, although we sadly weren't allocated at the photographer's pit but at the soundboard instead Gordon is still sounding great and, although I think some female backup singers would be appreciated, the band was spot on. Great concert overall!

  2. 35 years ago yesterday! Wasn't Sting high during this show? U2 and The Police on the same bill, a dream.

  3. He was extremely pissed off - his drugs phase had passed by then as it only really lasted during the zenyatta tour. The tabloid press were hounding him and trudie following his divorce and his legal battles with virgin over his publishing rights and especially the use of don't stand so close to me in an ad for 'bodymist'. As a gig it was great, as a place to hold a gig it was crap and nowhere near sold out which probably didn't help sting's mood. The ridiculous thing is they could have probably sold out wembley stadium.

Basically a home gig for Sting.
  5. That was one of the big issues. He'd expected a hero's welcome. a sold out stadium with the crowd doing handstands as he came on and it didn't happen. But the police's uk touring history after 1979 and up to the start of the synchronicity tour in december 83 is littered with mistakes, disasters and missed opportunities. zenyatta starts less than 12 hours after mixing the album but only lasts five and a half months with only three shows in england two of which are in a tent in london in December. The ghost in the machine tour lasts slightly longer and sees a few more shows in britain but sting can only play bass on half the december shows after cutting his hand and andy has to rush in and out of hospital with a kidney stone and play one gig hooked up to a machine with a doctor on standby. summer 82 they play two tiny shows in aylesbury and southampton followed by gateshead. They then plan to play small venues before the synchronicity tour kicks off proper in the us in 1983 but there's a problem with equipment. This gets changed to even smaller venues by surprise but that gets scrapped as well. And this all happens to a band who sold more in a year than someone who would now headline multiple nights in multiple stadiums will sell in their entire career.
