Bad from Cologne 1987 is my all-time favourite. Not only because i was there.
Bad was given in two parts. U2 first played the shorter but very powerful version leaving out the last verse like often in 86 and 87.
Then they left the stage and the audience sang "to let it go and so to fade away" for a minute. Hering that Bono came back and sang the last verse and after that the band came into the song.
Unfortunately the versions circulating on several bootlegs donīt show the whole version so you canīt experience it as statet above.

Hi! I think the bootlegs represent exactly what you say:
quote:
Disc 2, Track 1 is a bit of a mess. The first thirty seconds or so is Edge's guitar outtro to "Bad". Then there is a very sloppy edit followed by "New Year's Day". All of this is indexed on the same track.
The crowd chants "Let it go...and so to find away" after the band finishes "Bad". After nearly a minute of the crowd chanting, Bono sings "If they should ask, well maybe they tell me what I should say...". Edge starts strumming away on the guitar and eventually Larry and Adam join in as well just before "It's desperation, separation, in temptation, isolation..." The band then plays "Ruby Tuesday" outtro for two more minutes. Definitely one of the better performances of "Bad" on the Joshua Tree Tour.

No, not at all: The bootleg lacks about 2 minutes during part I of Bad. During this time U2 played a snippet of Norwegian Wood and the "sing it, sing it, sing it"-part. The whole song lasted nearly 12 minutes.
Believe me: I was there and also played it back before writing this.
As stated before it was in my opinion the most briliant all-time version (maybe except Live Aid.

That-s what I answered to the first "Best Bad" topic. The broadcasts sounds SO good and the crows is awesome. Specially the part where Bono lets them sing out loud. They are so loudŠ ;?
