1. Anyone have any experiences meeting the band? I think it would be kind of cool to hear anyones stories (it even might create some jealousy, especially by me !!)
  2. Lots!

First time was in San Diego 1987. A bunch of us were outside the hotel. Maybe the hotel staff thought that if Bono went outside we'd all leave. I don't think they expected what they get instead... and that was a throng of fans having a sing-a-long with Bono outside the hotel. Bono even mentioned this during the 2001 Elevation show in S.D.

Since then, I've been lucky enough to meet each of them a number of times. Many times during ZOO TV, POP, Elevation and Vertigo tours.

One stand-out time of fun was in March 2005 - just before the start of the tour. U2 were rehearsing at the LA Sports Arena. They'd gave tickets out for a dress rehearsal, via KROQ. But there was a handful of us there the day before that, while U2 held a closed rehearsal. We waited for hours and hours. We could hear them playing. Every little while we'd freak out and look at one another "Holy crap, was that just them playing "Gloria"?", things like that. Good fun and made some new friends that day.

Later in the evening, the arena went silent for a bit and then... the limos began departing. First out was Adam. He was very funny, took pictures with all of us and answered questions. I asked if they'd play "Even Better Than The Real Thing" during Vertigo. Adam said: I don't think so, we've played it alot on the last tours. I said: You did on ZOOTV and POPMART but you only played it 10 times on Elevation - 11 if you count the promo show in Paris". Adam laughed and said, "Really, you fans always know these things better than us." Adam signed my "Best of 1990-2000" CD booklet, inside picture that is a two page piccy of himself. Nice! I said: "Did I REALLY hear you playing "An Cat Dubh" in there!? Adam said: "Oh yes, we are going to play it. I also commented that it was great to hear "Gloria" again and Adam agreed.

Then Bono was next. An SUV pulled out. Bono got out with Security man John. We were lined up and behaving. Bono was joking and talkative. We asked about the dress rehearsal the next day... "Is the any chance we might be permitted in"? Bono smiled, looked at John, and said "See the big man here tomorrow... I think we can work something out". The group of us there were ecstatic to hear that!

After Bono left, another limo pulled out but it slowly passed us... Who was it? Was it Larry? Why did they not stop? But sure enough... 100 yards away... the car stopped and backed up! Out pops The Edge with a big smile, greeting us all. Once again we lined up and behaved...

(Notice to all, do that and your chances of pictures and autographs increase - act like a mob and not so much.)

...so Edge walks down the line shaking hands and greeting each person - one by one. I figured - okay, it's been a long day, no autographs just a quick hello... that's cool. Heck, he DID stop and come back! I was at the end of the line and he shook my hand and said hello. We talked for a couple of minutes and then he politely excused himself. What did he do next? He went BACK to the front of the line and went through it again, taking pictures and giving autographs. HOW is THAT for manners and class. He came back for us, wanted to greet each of us personally and THEN took pics and signed. Class act, that Mr. The Edge.

They are all nice folks, down to earth, funny... just regular guys... that happen to make some damn fine music.

Great story! This is truly the best band in the history of the universe.
  4. Wow, that was a great story. Just a quick question, how did you know what hotel they were going to be at?

I think its great how they appreciate their fans, willing to "come back" and take pics/autographs. I mean really, do you know any other band in the world that would do that? and then line up and do it all over again.

I hope some day I can meet them!!!!

Maybe I'm a freak, but it would be hard for me to listen to musicians who are unfriendly and yet in their songs they sing about love and faith and these kind of stuff. They re genius musicians and great, great people.

Yogi- I feel the same way. Thats what turns me off on some celebrities- singers or actors- how they can look the other way when someone wants a simple autograph. Simply thinking, the people are the ones that make them famous by supporting them day in and day out. I think, or rather I know that U2 definitely appreciates us as the best fans (of the best band) in the world.
  7. Blessed are the ones who kneel, and blessed are the ones who have met the band . I hope that someday I will have the same honor. Lucky lads , love the stories , I want more
  8. AMEN!
  9. Those were some great stories Jeff (god bless the "names" topic )...cool band they are and they're not changing that much on these issues...seen that video from Bono in paris with fans in the first days of 2008? Good man

    I saw that. Very cool.

Never myself met them. Maybe someday...
  11. For their 2006 Adelaide show, I was about an hour away from where they were and missed them. Damn.
  12. I was once in pub with Bono. Then I woke up....
Hope I will meet them one day
