Anyone getting excited for the 2008 Summer Olympics? Personally, I can't wait until the US basketball team gets embarrassed again. (Although they're insisting that it won't happen this time......)

It 's kinda snuck up on me; but yeah, excited now. Nothing in particular though. I'm sure we'll valiantly come 3rd in a few things ......

I'm really worried that it's going to be riddled with drug cheats. Moreso than any other Games. Marion Jones did not return a positive test in her whole career. She only fessed up when she was going to be outed by someone who knew. I read someone where they have been many picked up already like weightlifters and other, and it hasn't even started yet!!!!

That said, I'm looking forward to Australia vs USA in the pool. Should be some really good duels there.

Re: basketball, Australia really pushed USA the other day in a warm-up.

I don't really follow any sports closely, but I've always enjoyed watching the Olympics since I was six-ish, so I'll probably honour the tradition and watch some coverage of them (especially swimming).

My girlfriend's family (from Bradford, remember?) always jokes about how atrocious the British Olympic team is. I'll be cheering for your countrymen, Dan...as long as they're not up against us Yanks.

Yeah, it probably will. I've been watching this pathetic mini-series "Road to Redemption", on ESPN. It's all about the men's basketball team. They seem to have their act together, this time around.

As long as they don't get a head swell...

Looking forward to some of the track and field, swimming, water polo (seriously, love that sport, and I kinda hate sports!). What else is there? A little gymnastics is okay but it tends to dominate the coverage, at least in the US.

I'm expecting over 30 medallists will have their medals stripped for drug cheating.

Sorry for being a cynic but there's a lot of desperate athletes out there.

Cynical aussiemofo....

No, you're probably right. Sports these days seem to be incredibly tainted.
