1. Every month we put an U2 fan in the spotlights, the fan of the month April 2009 is user JohnnyVOXX. Juan, as his real name is, is living in Argentina and 27 years old. Juan has some great information on Argentina and of course a great passion for U2. Want to know more? Read along..

Every fan of the month has an interview with us, you can read our interview with JohnnyVOXX in this topic:

Tell us something about yourself, who are you and what do you do for a living?
Well, my name is Juan Carlos, 27, I was born in Argentina and when I was 2 years old my family moved to Caracas - Venezuela, because of my father's work. We spent in Venezuela almost 18 years. I did all my school there. As you all might know, things in Venezuela are pretty fu**** up right now, with this madman they have for a president, and by the time I left, 2001, you could see it coming... so we (all the family, dog included) came back to Argentina searching for a new horizon...

I found a job, which I needed to get some money home, continued my law studies (which I started in Venezuela but had to give up when we came back)... through the years it came to my attention that law school wasn't really for me (I'm really not a good liar and have big issues against screwing someone else while getting rich by doing it... hehe)

As we got here, I started working for a Chemicals Distribuitor as an office boy, through 8 years I managed to get promoted several times; I got a pretty good position as "manager" of the International Trades and Bussinness Dpt. (import/export).

On february this year, I was called by a Freight Forwarder (International Cargo & Logistics Agent) they came up with an awesome $$ offer, including money to start studying again (Intl. Logistics, I'm starting this June) and I've been working there 2 months now... I'm really really happy here, it's the kind of job I was looking for and most important, these folkes are amazing, excellent profesional and personal relations... it's a small company but with big dreams and a great future... right know I'm in Customer Service & Operations...
So that is pretty much it, I don't want you all to search for a more interesting thing to do, so I'd better stop here...

What's one thing no-one knows about Buenos Aires?
It's a beautiful city, very big city, people are always in a rush and don't really take the time to appreciate the city they live in... I can say that as someone who grew outside of Buenos Aires, I think I know the city sometimes even better than the folkes who have been here their whole life...

oh, and a funny fact: did you know that Tango was first danced between men??

Which member of the band would you most like to share a pint with?
With all the four of them!!! but, if I had to narrow it down, I'd say with Larry... he has always remained out of the spotlight, and if your having a pint with him, it's only because you're his friend... though it would certainly be very interesting to have a pint with any of them, they each have an amazing personality....

What do you think of Bono's charity works?
I'm really supportive about it... I think that it's amazing for someone who is so famous to use his voice for those who can't.... the easy way out has always been to look away, and it takes big courage to go out and stand for what he he believes... and it's most difficult to stay truthfull and faithfull to it... and he has.... I really admire his courage and his work... I'm some one who would certainly say: Bono, never give up!! please keep getting the word out and getting new fans involved...

In your opinion, what has been U2's defining moment and why?
I have to say, in my honest opinion that the moment they where in Berlin at the Hansa studios and ONE was born, that very moment when they realized that the band was bigger than the sum of its parts... I can only imagine what that moment really meant for all the 4 members of the band as Edge was playing some tubes, Bono sang those words from deep inside, Adam and Larry doing the same... and that sparkle they thought was lost, came bursting and starting a fire all over again...

Achtung Baby was born after, and they truely reinvented U2 themselves,
Oh! and ZOOTV, what a tour!!!!

How did you become a fan of U2, tell us how it happened?
I had always heard songs from U2, basicly some all time classics but never really payed any attention... then, on my 18th or 19th b-day an aunt gave me ATYCLB as a present... I remember playing it for the first time and listening to Beautiful Day... blew my mind away... that was the first spark.... I thought, these guys are really good... So I went off and bought the BEST of 1980's - 1990's and I was in love... then a causin of mine, who is another die-hard fan as most of us, gave me my first bootleg, given my growing interest in the band (31/DEC/89) and that was it... I heard them live, and I was in love all over again... went off to the record store and little by little I started getting my hands into all of their albums...

2006 - biggest moment of my life, they came to Argentina, I got the chance to attend to the first date in Argentina for the Vertigo Tour stop, 01/MARCH... yes yes, I was one of the lucky bastards who got to listen to that bit of LIB after so many years.... after that concert, I said to myself, this guys really rock live, so I started looking for bootlegs and I ended in this amazing site... for the wich I'll be forever thankful to Remy and the rest of the crew members...

Does anyone in your family or one of your friends like U2? If so, did they introduce you to U2, or did you "convert" them?
As I said before, my aunt gave me ATYCLB as a b-day present and then my causin was the one who started me in the beautiful world of bootlegs...

I haven't converted anyone at my close family... the farthest I've gone is make my Dad listen to a few songs and he likes U2 for the excellent lyrics, but he's not that much into their music....

What are your hobbies and interests away from U2, musical or otherwise?
I'm a big reader... I love reading and getting lost between books... I love history..
and one of my favorite moments is when I have the time to go out and walk through the streets in Buenos Aires, something that is always refreshing... another thing I really enjoy doing is going to concerts... so far I've been lucky enough to see: U2, Sting, The Police, MUSE, Coldplay, Collective Soul, Jamiroquai, Mars Volta, Roger Waters, Dolores O'Riordan, etc.... the list goes on...

and of course, I also enjoy a lot attending soccer matches, when my team (CLUB ATLETICO RIVER PLATE) is playing local I do my best to go... and when Argentina is local, I double the effort and try to go...

How is your Irish speaking group going? Tell us something more about it.
well.... first of all, for those who don't know, my father's family is Irish and I'm sort of involved in a Irish Social Club here in B.A. basicly what we do is gather once a month and havev some beers, sing some Irish songs, the girls learn Celtic dances, etc...

a few of us came up with the idea of organizing some Gealic classes, but sadly, it never got started... we had some trouble... first of all, we weren't able to find students (someone else interested in getting started with me and a friend of mine) and by the time we did we lost the teacher.... so we had to drop the dream...

but, here's to hope that sometime soon I can learn at least a little.... I'll let you know if it comes around... hehe...

Would you rather have U2 start a new tour in South America, or finish the final leg?
I would rather have them come here in the middle of the tour... the last leg, is like light years away!! I can't possibly wait that long... but, mmm, I prefer waiting for the end of the tour though; and make sure that by then they are pretty confident and good at playing the new songs... the sort of moment when they have figured out how to play the new songs live and start playing with them, making changes, for the sake of doing great music and that moment when they are able to really enjoy the gig, enjoy the audience, etc...

To give this interwiew a rest, finally, I would like to thank Remy for this amazing site... I'm very happy that you chose me as Fan of the month and that you've taken interest in knowing a little more about me... u2start.com really became every die-hard fan a place to have a good time, get some awesome quality bootlegs and make amazing friends!!! thanks to all the crew members, that keep the site up to date and very tidy, and last but not least, to all of you fans like me, who make this site what it is, and who make U2start a very crowded and happy place to be around...

PS: that sounded like a grammy's acceptance speach!!! haha....
all my best wishes and thoughts,
    Johnny.
