1. Every month we put an U2 fan in the spotlights, the fan of the month January 2011 is user sarad. Sara, as her name is, recently had a telephone call on stage with Bono.. reason enough to speak with her. Enjoy!

Tell us something about yourself, who are you and what do you do for a living?
Hy everyone! My name is Sara and i live in a sunny (not so sunny this winter...) small village in Tuscany, Italy. I'm 26 and i'm currently looking for a job after a year of stop after working for 6 year for a Baketball Team (no i'm not a player just paper work!)
I'm kinda of considering the idea of running away from this country and all the lame things happening here....but who knows, maybe i'll miss my beautiful sea, so i have to think very hard before i make any decision, i love music, play tennis and i'd love to play guitar....

How did you become a fan of U2, tell us how it happened?
i was 13 "mild and green and squeaky clean" saw this colourful cd in the cd player of my friend "U2-Pop",couriosity got the best of me so i borrowed it, listened to it -on repeat on Gone for months- , saw the Ema's from Rotterdam 1997 on Tv and as soon as the came on stage red glasses, yellow bass and cowboy hat i fell in love with them! with that "looking for to save my - save my soul" i was a goner!
In 2001 my friend managed to go to their concert in Torino, when she came home she was amazed!
With the time i started to buy the other albums and growing up i appreciated them even more, the first time i listened to The Joshua Tree i couldn't believe my ears and the first time i heard Bad i think i've cried!
it's 2010 now almost 2011 and after 13 year i love them even more, i don't always agree with their choises, i don't always love their album (How to dismantle an atomic bomb for exemple) but as long as they have something good to say and as loong my heart will do that silly thing while listening to one of their song, i'll stick with them!

If you could go back in time, which U2-era would you like to be in, and why?
Well i love Achtung Baby ... so it might be predictable to say the ZooTv era . they were at their top, and Achtung Baby and Zooropa are simply amazing. Moments of fine live music! With that Tour and i think with that album they raised the bar for the other bands at that time! The show they put together was a monster of a project! In my opinion they brought a breath of fresh air in a lot of stale music!
Everytime i watch the Dvd of The Zootv from Sydney i wish to be there! The Zoostation Intro is simply amazing. and i'd love to hear Numb sung from the Edge live!!! what a dream!
..... ok the truth is i want to go back to Zoo era to be grabbed by Bono during Trying to throw your arms around the world dance and get drunk with the champagne with him!!!

Which U2 song do you feel the most "attached" to, or means the most for you?
Where the streets have no name! for me that song is freedom, every time i listen to it i close my eyes and i feel free.
Bono's voice and Edge's guitar really bring me high on a desert plain, with the sunlight on my face..
That is my song, even live at concerts is the song where i stop, close my eyes (sometimes cry) and i stand there bathed in the red light! then at some point start to jump and dance...
It's hard to explain but this song is my peace, it calms me and makes me go crazy at the same time, weird, i know!

On the video above, you were the girl Bono was talking to, what did you talk about?
That were the 40 seconds most surreal of my life! i still can believe it (luckily i have my friend - the guy who was there and from whom Bono takes the phone from - that reminds me that it was real).
it goes without saying that i went CRAZY, i said to him my name that i was from italy and asked if they liked the flash mob/coreography at the Stadio Olimpico in Roma... i've got a Honey and a Wow from Bono!

Was this something you had been planning or was it spontaneous?
it was completely unexpected and spontaneous, i was at home it was morning here in italy...and at some point during che call i see my mom running in my bedroom asking me if i was ok or if i hurt myself because she heard me scream!!!!!!!!!!! lol
Let me explain a little how it went...my friend (also from Italy) got front row under the stage and told me that he was going to call me to let me listen some...
he called me a first time during One Tree Hill, (as u know sometimes by phone u can't hear clearly the music especially if the phone is under the stage...) so , then he called me again before Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me to chat a little without the noise, and he told me to listen to all the tree songs until the end...so at one point when i hear the usual greetings before Moment of Surrender i say ok here we go it's almost finished, but then i hear a strange silence and then after some words i realised it was God Himself! still can't believe it!!!!! he was sweet both Bono and of course my friend who i'll never stop saying thanks!!!

Does anyone in your family or one of your friends like U2? If so, did they introduce you to U2, or did you "convert" them?
I have a friend that liked them but was not sooooo crazy....i've managed to drag her to Torino and Zurich II, now she is addicted too!!!

What is your favorite U2 videoclip, and why?
just one? noooo i can't do it with one....
i like the Discotheque Video because it cracks me up every single time i see it....
but also i love the Bad video from Rattle and Hum... pure passion, it gives me goosebumps every single time!
but seriously i think that if i have to choose i'll choose the the Sunday Bloody Sunday from Red rocks...because i think that everyone fell in love with them more in that moment, if i should choose a vid for non u2 fans to show them U2, i'll show this one... the fire, the fierceness they held, young and restless soul...the unforgettable withe flag and the "no more"....one of my fav video and moment EVER!
i think in this performance anyone can see what this young guys believed in at that time...and why after 25 YEARS they are still here with us....maybe now the fire is a little asleep, but i believe it just need to be stroked in the right way!it's still there!

What do you think of Bono's charity works?
sometimes i think about that ,and i think it is very remarkable that he wants to do something good for the world.
i think that he could stay at home with his family enjoyin his money, but instead he puts his face on the first line for a battle and a cause he believes in. risking a lot sometimes!
but sometimes it seems to me that he lose his track as a rock star .... and goes head first in charity...once in a while he could spare us his long preaching during each and every concert...it would be a good change, i mean...the fans, the REAL fans i think that knows what he wants achieve and they help him in anyway the can...signin to one.org, buying RED... donating... exc...

What are your hobbies and interests away from U2, musical or otherwise?
another band, completely different from U2 that i love are the Kings Of Leon, i had the chance to see'em live last month and i have to say that they didn't disappoint!
i also like pearl jam (thanks to my friend ), Radiohead and the good old Beatles!
i like going out, enjoy my friends and their company. i love the sea and summer! i don't think i could leave without seeing the sea!
i love to travel and see new places and i collect rock band t-shirt...
