Short version: There'll be a new album when there's a new album. Most likely it won't be soon. -
I think they thought NLOTH was gonna be alot more successful than it turned out to be,and were planning songs of a similar nature and have been taken aback by the "failure" of what was described as going to be the best U2 record so far.Maybe they've had second thoughts and are going to put out a more safer album instead who knows?
Great to speculate but U2 wont release a new record unless they believe its perfect. -
McGuinness said last November that a new album would surface in may ,its now may where is it?unless they do a Radiohead and not tell anyone ,cant see them doing that as U2 are monster corporate machine who go to extreme lengths to sell their records(taking over the BBC for a wk,letterman, awards show ,daytime TV ,midnight openings big hoo ha and ott marketing) -
I'm impressed with the magnitude of your displeasure. That's alot of quotes. I'm also a bit put-off by their constant talk of a new album and not delivering. Gotta take everything they say with a large grain of salt unfortunately.
I have no expectations on a date for a new album anymore. I don't think anyone else should either -
After such a long tour (and a "meh" album) I think it might be best for the band to "Go away for a while and dream it up all over again." -

i´m sure they´ll slow things down a bit... maybe they do it r.e.m. style... release an album, but no tour... just get out the best they have come up with in the last years, try to find balance to make it feel like a whole thing and put it out... then they go take a break, maybe have fun doing a b-sides tour

I can't imagine a new album without a tour. I'm tired of read and listen to our boys saying that U2 lives to play gigs, and that's when they feel happier about their music. So, as long they're not lying, I don't think there's gonna be a new album without a tour. But, we can have a small tour at smaller venues, or a big tour with longer intervals between shows.

popmarter - you've too much time on your hands

Next Fall. So around 18 months away.
Yeah, Bono takes the piss.

I don't mind U2 is taking their time. Let's face it, the Horizon album was not very succesful and the new songs played during the Europe 2010 leg were not very promising either, to say the least. In fact, to me these songs sounded as b-side material. -
Funny, I wrote a post almost as long the other day about the so-called failure of No Line. Instead of taking ten years to read it, let's just say I make the point that somebody forgot to tell U2 and Paul McGenius that since about 2006, very few or make that no...artists over 40 or near 50 have huge hit singles or albums.
As far as the next album... I just hope they take the best 70-79 minutes of all the songs they have regardless of theme or style, regardless of producer and plunk them on one cd. Then, I hope they take whatever is left and put them on 2-3 cds or even more if they grew some huge balls and put demos and alternate versions of some of the songs. Hell, that thing could be 5 cds, and I know I'd buy it, and many on here would too.
Now to be really insane, I'd like all the demos and outtakes from Pop....to see what it sounded like when they first thought they finished it. -
i Think i Read Somewhere That Bono Was Saying that u2 will be ready to release SONGS OF ACCENT when............popmarter..........has finished writing his incredibly long post.
