1. It looks like SOI is by far his favorite of the era, and he actually has it ahead of Boy and October, so he doesn't totally hate the later albums, I would think. I have SOI at 14, but I think most of us like every single album, and are just rating them. SOI is the only one I don't love or get close to loving, but if we changed the track listing, and added Lucifer's Hands, Ballroom, and Ordinary Love, we'd have an album I would have liked tons better.

New change, I had felt this for some time, but never really had the will to admit it:

    1.
    The Unforgettable Fire
    Boy
    Songs of Innocence

    2.
    Joshua Tree
    Achtung Baby
    Songs of Experience
    War
    Zooropa
    No Line on The Horizon
All That You Can't Leave Behind

    3.
    Rattle And Hum
    Atomic Bomb
    Pop
    October

Achtung or Joshua might be master pieces, but I enjoy SOI and Boy 10x more.
(Moreover, if there's an album with the outtakes from 78-80, it would be in the first tier as well).
  3. Yeah, I definitely understand that. As great as Achtung Baby and TJT are, I'm way more likely to put on Pop, SOI, or SOE...

Also... I'd kill many men to have a nice set of early unreleased U2 tracks. Just Life On a Distant Planet would have me going mad... That's one I can't believe didn't make some sort of release!

That was tough, & is by on means set in stone. Eg. Pop can move up to 4, depending on my mood.

  7. I guess my list can change depending on the mood or a situation, but mainly this is my personal rank:
    1. Achtung Baby (the level of experimentation, the new sounds after the late 80s, the hauntingly beautiful melodies, the extravaganza ZooTv tour...many U2 classics & hidden / underrated gems)
    2. All that you can't leave behind (Some of my favorite songs are in this album & I also love the Elevation tour)
    3. No line on the horizon (I just love everything they wrote in 2007-2009, excellent bass & guitar playing, nice melodies)
    4. The Joshua Tree (masterpiece)
    5. Pop (cool songs, I like the lyrics, U2 underappreciated classics for sure)
    6. Songs of innocence (the first release I experienced as a fan, I believe it's one of their best work in their entire career, meaningful lyrics, some awesome underappreciated tunes, great album)
7.Songs of experience (somewhere in the middle I guess)
    8. War (such an amazing album overall)
    9. HTDAAB (rock tunes, positive - uplifting vibes/sounds)
    10. Zooropa - The Unforgettable Fire - Boy - Rattle and Hum (don't get me wrong, really great albums, a lot of U2 classics, but I was never attached personally to one of those albums)
    11. October (I never got really into it)

  11. I want to wait and post in the worst/best album with ratings thread in a few months but regarding the above ranking although I find it a huge stretch to rank Boy #1 it is the #1 debut album of all time for me. Followed by Ten from pearl Jam. In some ways bringing out as good an album as boy at that stage of there lives was more of an achievement than bringing out an album like Achtung Baby which even though I rate much higher they were ready for having gained the experience of being in the biggest band in the world.
