And, to be totally honest here with you, ‘raw’ IEM’s have always sounded pretty funky to me so that’s why I only realized later that something odd had occurred in the "dubbing" of the so-called bono-iem (which was on the right channel only). But I have to admit that I also kinda liked the wacky sound better then the initial ‘raw’ bono-iem. And, too, since it was still the lossy feed only, I figured that it was better to get it right with the lossless pull.

It's bizarre. See the picture I took. That's a spatial analysis, so you see an odd spread of frequencies along the stereo field. I had wondered if it was a stereo plug-in that you did, perhaps by accident?

Again, I'm going to politely disagree with the urge to release it quickly. Why not wait a bit to get a better quality at least? Quality control and all that...

The thing at the end are probably the e-stage songs, which already have a different mix in the feed to begin with
(I did not need to boost the bass there.)

I have not used any stereo effect what so ever. What might have happened is that one or two equalizer runs have been applied to one channel. This I can test by dubbing one channel once again.

yes, people have been guilty of that for over 15 years and now some genius has decided that we should wait until the tour is over. Short sighted is a nice term to throw in the discussion, but I'm still missing convincing arguments. We've already had that discussion last year on pm, so for me no need to do it all over, but in every IEM topic you're feeding the discussion again. People not sharing their IEM's might become an even bigger problem. In Amsterdam there were at least 6 IEM tapers in the building with multiple recorders. Thats one of the reasons I backed out. I think that mass taping might be a much bigger threath for the open IEM system. I dont think sharing is, I think U2 likes the spirit of sharing recordings even a couple of IEM's. As long as they don't come of bad.
  4. That picture is only Song For Someone. Where it changes at the end is just crowd noise + chatter.

  5. And that's why they still bust tapers. Proof is in the pudding.

I'm not saying don't release, just saying wait until the end of the tour. Clearly you disagree. Obviously then I'm glad you sat this run out.

or just share the raw IEM, I think thats what most people want to hear.

well, local security bust tapers every now and then, but U2 never made a big deal of taping, they even encouraged it at some points. They know where to find the tapers, certainly on past tours with the sweet spots.
And well, even if I had taped this year, I'm not sure if I would have uploaded anything yet. Even though I don't agree with your opinion and with the pact, doesn't mean I would do the total opposite and release everything instantly. I think the whole pact is just there for the wrong reason and every taper can decide for him or herself what to do. Thats how it worked in the past and it worked fine. An occasional IEM during the tour so others can also have a taste from whats happening 'behind the scenes'.

When you say "end of the tour" for some clarification are you talking about the end of this leg or are you talking about the "end" of the tour, possibly 2017??

If they spot tapers, U2's private security will actively bust tapers. Make no mistake, U2 & the organization is not taper friendly. They may give lip service how they personally don't mind it, but that is not put into policy.
  10. @hoserama, I replied you per pm.

I think we better continue the techincal discusion in private, and "publish" the results and finding later.

The general iem-share discussion should be continued elsewhere

You really are off base here. If I was gonna be busted, I would certainly rather be busted by venue security, than the bands security. The bands security in the past has taken gear, and would certainly be pissed about finding a receiver. The band might have said they are ok with bootlegs, but the management has never been OK with it.

They can easily make things more difficult for IEM tapers just by mixing up frequencies, and changing things around more frequently. They have already made some changes that make things harder, just in the last few weeks.

they better close down u2torrents or u2start then 'if they spot tapers'; thats not actively, but passively. Officially they don't allow taping, we all know that, but they don't have a big problem with it at all. As long as things are not getting out of control. But they will not worry about just a couple of thousand fans collecting live recordings.
