1. Ballads, every great rock band has one that lives on. It is safe to say our favorite lads from Dublin have much more than that. For me, With Or Without You—both the song and video are what a ballad is supposed to sound like and look like. One of the most atmospheric songs/videos ever. Incredible.

I wrote a short piece about this awesome song. If you have time and interest, please check it out. I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences. Thanks!

Thanks, andyuk36. I agree, that song is special. I'm hoping the band has something great planned for that song this summer.
  5. would love to hear the versions of WOWY that existed before the Steve Lillywhite 'final' mix.
This years box seems such a lost opportunity

Featuring Edge's favourite guitar part from the whole album!

  7. Indeed. The term he was looking for and couldn't find was "anti-climatic", and I agree... it lets you kind of waiting for the big guitar ballad-ish solo which never happens, and I think that's actually a very good summary-metaphor for the whole song (and most human relationships I guess).

    Spoiler (click to toggle)
Or maybe I'm reading too much into it and it was just Edge being lazy and not wanting to record a guitar solo that day.

Anti-climatic is a good word. It is such a fantastic ending.
  9. Edge has never really been a guitar solo guy for me. I think he excels in his ability to set up an atmosphere within a song. That's why his trademarked "echo guitar" effect is quintessential Edge guitar work. I know people have talked about U2 scrapping the echo guitar stuff, but it's a huge part of their musical identity. It wouldn't feel like U2 without it.

I totally agree, and that is what I love about him. Guitar solos are great, but they are not U2. His guitar sound is unique and one of the things that give U2 its signature.
  11. Well I agree with you both in a way, but very few things in the whole world gives me more goosebumps than Love Is Blindness' guitar solo.
