  2. While chronological order sounds interesting, for me personally, song flow is the foundation that needs to dictate the show.

It's like if a movie or show has bad writing / storytelling, no amount of acting or special effects can cover that up.

Joshua Tree in sequence, live, is IMO a fatal flaw, and it's the primary reason this tour is kind of falling flat, more so than "old, tired Bono."

It completely handcuffs the setlist, and it limits the power these songs can have in the right live context. Just like the band, the setlist is more than the sum of its parts.

If I want the album in order, I'll go listen to the album.

There's a reason U2 has never played albums in sequence live - a live concert is a different format from a record. People aren't listening on a road trip - they're standing for 2-3 hours, holding in pee, etc. Energy needs to be channeled and maintained throughout the show.

I'm not saying this is perfect, but this is an example of same exact list of songs (with 2 substitutions), ordered in a way that I think would be a proper U2 show, and not a paint-by-numbers (okay, we're gonna do this one now... and now this one):

    1. A Sort Of Homecoming
    2. In God's Country
    3. Vertigo
    4. I Will Follow
    5. Trip Through Your Wires
    6. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
    7. Red Hill Mining Town
    8. New Year's Day
    9. The Little Things That Give You Away
    10. Exit
    11. Sunday Bloody Sunday
    12. Bullet The Blue Sky
    13. Running To Stand Still
    14. Pride
    15. Where The Streets Have No Name
    16. One Tree Hill
    17. With Or Without You
    Encore
    18. Desire (Hollywood Remix)
    19. Beautiful Day
    20. Bad
    21. One
    22. Mothers Of The Disappeared / El Pueblo Vencera
  3. JT in sequence is great and I wouldn't change it... I would also try to start with whole JT... and do something with the rest...

Wise words. I think the songs would have more meaning if they were used at the right times during the show. The casual fans would have more to gain as well not having to sit/stand through the entire album of which they might only know the hits.
  5. I don't understand why they don't start the show with JT. I know, I know Streets is such a high point of your normal U2 show...but that is also what makes it a kick ass opener. Then they can do whatever the hell they want the rest of the night. The 5(4)(3) songs before JT take away from any spontaneity after the main course, so to speak.
  6. i have been thinking for the past week of what would be the best last song to be played on this tour. I know that the new song leaves plenty of folks sort of on a low note leaving the stadium........
    SO here it is...... "SECONDS"
Think about it....it has the antiwar message, threat of atomic bombs and the words SAY GOOD BYE.....say good bye.......
Does anyone else think this would be an amazing choice?
i would love to hear this in Miami......people would be singing along on the way out.

I thought it started later in order for it to be dark enough outside for the intro to Streets.

  9. What do you think about the setlist so far? And the changes every night?
U2 is my favorite band since 1976 but when I look at Springsteen and Pearl Jam setlists, man what a changes every night.
I know they must stick to the videos on the big screen, but I prefer a smaller screen with only shots from the concert if they change more.
Don't get me wrong: still the best band in the whole world!!

I think the original main setlist (well, maybe the Seattle one with Bad over MLK) is absolutely fantastic and shouldn't be touched - unless they decide to open with a Boy song before SBS.

I think the encore is where they should go hog wild and mix it up as much as possible. If not, no worries for me as I'm only attending one show but I think they could use those final six or so slots to showcase how many great post-JT songs they have.

Still a bit surprised Desire hasn't been played yet. I guess it got quite a few plays in 2015.
  11. I think there's a good chance of TJT songs getting mixed up as they move on to Europe. It really does need to be dark for Streets and it won't be fully dark till much later in the show. I really can't imagine them wanting to play the song whilst it's still light.

I'm really happy with the setlist. I've never seen Bad and NYD so a good chance of getting both excites me greatly. I hope ASOH sticks around on second night shows...

It just needs a tad change to the encore, as unlikely as it is (given the visuals) I think MS should go, as beautiful as the song is it's not that's particularly well known outside of the hardcore fandom. I'm still really surprised Vertigo hasn't appeared too, my pals who are casual fans will be absolutely gutted not to get that one. You would have though an Elevation/Vertigo rotation would be there for sure.

I think the post JT section needs one more crowd pleaser, full band Desire after BD or All I Want is You before the final song?
