1. Just thinking ahead I hope the new album has songs that are easy enough for them to play live. I feel like the troubles and California were ditched due to them being difficult to reach the album standard. They did play a fair amount of SOI on the I&E tour regularly but I'd love to see them play 9 from SOE every night on the next tour. I'd also like to see them bring back them opening and closing the show with new songs. I loved 40 finishing the Glasgow show in 2015 but there's something cool about having the confidence like on 360 to start with Breathe and finish with Moment Of Surrender. I feel like they've got a big opening song in store for us anyway and they may well stick with The Little Things closing shows too which I'd be more than happy with.
  2. it's time for new things

I 100% agree. They should play Volcano more and debut TIWYCRMN on E+I Tour
  4. Volcano would be cool since I've never seen it in person but TIWYCRMN would be great. I think we might never see it live though but I hope I'm wrong.

  5. Volcano to me is another stab at another "Vertigo". It has a killer bass-line (apparently written by Edge which is a bit disappointing (that it wasn't Adam)) and to me that's pretty much it. It's a rock song that lacks any real grit. The verses are alright, the chorus to me is ultimate cringe. The lyrics a 10 year old would write or something.

I loved SoI when it came out, but the truth of the matter is, I barely listen to it ever these days. I think it sounds over produced (what else is new), too..constructed (for lack of a better word) and it doesn't have any songs to me that I'd put up there with U2's best. Iris was far better live, EBW was far better the way they performed it during the promo-tour, California is fucking awesome on the album but underperformed live, etc. The more I think about it the more it reminds me of NLOTH, but in no way is it as big an offender of what I mean. There are songs with sounds and ideas that are interesting and new for U2 (the synths in the California chorus, the arrangement and production on Sleep Like A Baby, etc) but they're surrounded by too many U2-isms that I hope are gone on the next album.

Bono said in the Zane interview that playing JT again has in a way set the slate clean, and it should make for a killer SoE. Let's hope he's right. I want, as Sum 41 so adaquetely put it (as an album title) - all killer, no filler. From what we've hard so far, it's on its way.

I'm being a bit harsh of course, it is a good album, far better than its predecessor, but it's not quite a great album as I considered it upon release.
  6. Just noticed at the start of Little Things from Rome 1 Bono says "I'd have had it out last year " referring to SOE
  7. could not disagree more. i think soi is by far their worst effort. NLOTH is miles above soi, and NLOTH is worse than their previous material, although i like NLOTH better than ATYCLB. it's my opinion of course.

In my opinion Zooropa was their worst effort. (Still a fantastic album. Love all their work.) SOI is one those albums you got to related with to enjoy it. The album is really a coming of age album that perfectly fits with my life. The iNNOCENCE of it and the loss of iNNOCENCE for the journey to eXPERIENCE with Songs of Experience. I do agree with the statement that of NLOTH of being more enjoyable than ATYCLB, IMO.
