When AB came out people were pissed it was TJT Volume 2.
Always loved that quote about AB being the sound of 4 men chopping down TJT.

It's kind of how every U2 album has gone, at least since TUF. Perhaps since AB the change from album to album has been nowhere near as radical or intentional as the change between TJT > AB, but you can be sure they set out to make each album have its own vibe that is different to that which has gone before. I do think that's possibly partially why each album takes awhile these days is that they perhaps have to work quite hard to ensure each album is not a part 2 of anything thats gone before.
  2. Not excited about the lyrics, but yes it's a bit annoying when people expects either something as revolutionary as Achtung or else is crap (definitely not talking about ept3 here, it's more about the "nothing good has come since Pop" feeling)

I'm excited about what we've heard so far. Little Things and Blackout sound really good to me, and I'm not embarrassed about the single/pop track, which I think is better than the last couple of lead singles).

  4. Imagine hearing "Grace... It's a name for a girl" over the "The Fly" riff...
  5. I like the lyrics that have been quoted so far. Are they Bono's most out-there, soul-searing words? No, but they don't necessarily have to be either. I'm curious to see how they work with the music to weave together this record's vibe. I have high hopes indeed.
  6. As Bono revealed in the RS, it's experience arguing with innocence. Listen to the middle and end of Little Things -> talking to me on the stairs that's the start, hurricane being born (experience), the end is here (innocence), it's not coming (experience). Sometimes, experience makes Bono think about his faith - experience tests his faith, sometimes.

Don't think end is near is talking about the band at all. But then again, with the ambiguity in the songs (done on purpose and genius), you never know

one of the things that comes with experience is that sumple is iften best.
  8. Who says that there will be only 11 songs on the album ? From what I have heard before, 12 songs is the goal to have in the album. And, Red Flag Day is very much a possibility to be retained in the album.
  9. hopefully others songs will be much better than the new they presented, i dream a real rock album , i need from them a rock album

    No one says so

Civilisation might also still make it.
