1. We have a new You Too poll, you can vote for this new poll on the frontpage and discuss it in this thread.

The question of this new You Too is:

You Too: Do you expect Songs of Experience to be U2's final album?
    - Yes, all the signs point to it
    - I'm not sure, but it is in the back of my mind
    - No, U2 will definitely have more up on their sleeves

Please vote on the frontpage of the website, in this topic you can tell us why you voted for your answer.
  2. Thanks Remy for taking my poll idea :)voted No , i think they have min 2 more more albums, and then end with ''Man'', would be a perfect way to go out i think
  3. Also voted no, I think the end is maybe in sight as the band do like to plan quite far ahead, but when I say in sight I mean at least one album after SOE possibly 2. So touring plans will have potentially already started for an album following SOE.

agreed, They do like to plan quite far ahead even though sometimes they say things that never happen..
  5. Hard to say. I was actually thinking about this last night. If I were one of them, I'd be considering just spending the rest of my days relaxing, basking on the porch of my Nice beach house.
  6. I picked "not sure". It would make sense, actually, for this to be their last album as they are completing the "Experience" part of Innocence and Experience, reflecting back on what is inevitably lost and yet gained when moving from the one to the other (and eventually back to "innocence" again, if that's why they are titling the next part of the tour "Experience & Innocence"? I hope so!).

But part of me just can't see Bono, in particular, wanting to give it up yet. Sure, he has his family and house in France, and plenty of activist work to keep him busy...but he still has too much wanderlust in him, I think he has admitted before. Too soon to give up the adventures of touring and performing! Edge for more musical reasons I think probably isn't ready yet either, although maybe it will depend on how this album and tour are received...Adam I could see content with either calling it quits or at least (as he mentioned in some interview recently?) deciding to just release music in a more small-scale way "for the fans", whatever that might look like. And Larry - while I'm sure he still enjoys all of this craziness\ - seems most ready to retire. Maybe it's just his no-nonsense personality or his own aging in particular...

Clearly I'm still thinking about this.
  7. Songs Of Innocence
    Songs Of Experience
    Songs Of Ascent

    The End!

well said, i was thinking the same about this album coming. I think your right in that they will see how it's received and go from there.
  9. I doubt there is any specific plan to retire. I think they are like all "big" bands - they will play as long as their health allows them. They are too restless to retire and just to relax. It is in their blood. I believe they will follow The Stones and that twenty years from now we will be dscussing what might be their last tour. I voted No.
  10. There have been some hints that they might call it quits... I can also see why Bono and Edge would like to continue, but it could be that Adam and/or Larry want to retire, and I believe they have a pact that if one of them wants to quit, the others will not continue a U2. Otherwise, I think they will release SoE, tour for a year and then go away for a while. Maybe we will get Songs of Ascent in 4 years time and then a new tour. Maybe just a new release and no tour, we don't know!

yeah can't see U2 doing a Bon Jovi type thing and hire replacements, as U2 is the longest ever band with original members, Larry does seem the most withdrawn with it all though.
  12. I think Larry's probably more into the music than we realise. It's just his persona, he sometimes looks a little bored or serious but he's just getting older, maybe he's physically and mentally tired and has to just concentrate on playing these days instead of letting it flow when he was younger and enjoying himself. I'd be surprised he was still doing it if he wasn't 100% committed.
