Performance notes: U2 botch Staring At The Sun the first time around and perform it again. At the end of Please, Larry plays a snippet of Sunday Bloody Sunday's distinctive drumming. This show features the live debuts of Mofo, Do You Feel Loved, Last Night On Earth, Gone, If God Will Send His Angels (only time a full band version is played), Staring At The Sun, Miami, Please, Discotheque, If You Wear That Velvet Dress, and Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me. So, it's the first night of the Popmart tour so, there is a much noticeable change after Zoo TV and, as far as the performance for the entire band goes it's a bit sloppy, for Bono, he has some rough moments here and there during the gig and, those mainly feature things such as his voice giving out or even his falsetto giving out in spots as for the rest of the band for this eventful night they also mess up in places during songs most noticeably messing up the first take of Staring At The Sun so badly that they had to restart it so definitely not everybody's strongest night, to say the least.
Sound
Due to coming from a soundboard, the sound quality for this performance is pretty clear but, for the version of the show I listened to, I will have the slight complaint that it was a bit bass-heavy but, other than that factor the sound is pretty good. Recording: Soundboard - 5 stars
Audience
They're an average audience, in my opinion, but, to be fair, they were the first audience that got to hear the band's new material from their album "Pop" live so, of course, they're going to have to try to take in the new stuff that they're playing alongside the older material.
Overall
Overall I'd say this gig is fairly ok as despite the flaws of the band and Bono. they do still put in some solid moments during the gig so, it's a mixed bag for this night's performances as you get some good/solid performances along with some bad/sloppy performances due to errors from the band.
Highlights from this gig song performance-wise for me included the following:
Staring At The Sun (2nd take)
Edge's Karaoke Spot
Miami/Bullet The Blue Sky
Please/Where The Streets Have No Name
If You Wear That Velvet Dress
