First night of Elevation - what can I say. Experimenting with many songs, trying to find a newer sounds. This gig was rather 50-50 and up-down to me. It was really good parts, alright in other parts but occasionally bad in some parts as well. I believe it was rehearsed properly, more than Popmart at least.
They kept some songs from Popmart - Discotheque and Gone. They brought back The Fly and re-decorated it. Also gave The Sweetest Thing a shot as well - Bono playing piano for once.
There was problems in 2 songs - Gone and The Fly. At the start of Gone, the backing track seems to have been misplaced in some way. Bono also forgot some of the lyrics. The Fly had a bag full of mistakes - really needing polished for future performances.
Near a five star but disruptions and crackles in the recording reduced it's rating. Very good recording though! Kudos to the person who recorded this.
Audience recording and where the hell are they!? Sleeping by the looks of it.
Aside the problems with a couple of songs, you can't really go wrong. Bono's voice could be a tad better though. Gone's backing track was misplaced and Bono was forgetting the lyrics. The Fly, definately good at Elevation when it never had a mistake, but here it was almost a disaster. Great start to the Elevation Tour!
- Beautiful Day
- The Sweetest Thing
- Where The Streets Have No Name
- Mysterious Ways
- Gone (backing track misplaced and Bono forgets some lyrics)
- The Fly (handful of mistakes)

This Pre-Rehearsal has the band warming up for the opening show of the Elevation Tour
(in just 3 days, March 24, 2001). Most songs have no vocals or they are distant or in the background.
This is completely different from the "Rehearsal Show" boot from March 22, 2001.
It is rumored that the taper of this show (and I assume the March 22, 2001 Rehearsal Show)
has taped up to 5 of these soundchecks and rehearsals,
leading up to the first show.
It would be great to get this circulating, and spread among the fans.

I purchased this on ebay 4 years ago; before I discovered the legal way of doing things.
As for quality, I would rate this a "7" or "very good" audience recording. I have
included the cover art which consists of scans of the original outer sleeve, both discs,
jewel-case style front and back, as well as scans of the inside cores to prove these
were manufactured by the Iguana record label. Just another source of the show that I
wanted to make sure gets in the hands of the most deserving fans out there! Enjoy!

"Our music is not something to lie down to, to get out of to, to die to, to commit suicide to. It's not a soundtrack to a nervous breakdown."
did you know
In 1996, The Edge and Brian Eno played on a little known album, 'Undark 3396' by the English artist Russell Mills. The Edge contributed chase guitar on several songs (which haven't been determined due to the strange nature.of the songs and the project itself).
