Performance

After 30+ years, this band is STILL putting on a great show! The Edge, Larry, and Adam were all very tight, and Bono, as always, was the ultimate showman! From beginning to end their performance was possibly one of the best I've seen in 30 years of seeing them perform live. Clocking in at almost 3 hours (2:45) it was by far the longest show I've ever seen them perform. They dug deep into their early albums, as all the set lists thus far on the tour have indicated. There were no real surprises, other than they did With or Without You, One, Pride, Bad & 40. So far most shows have not closed with 40, but they did for the Boston opener, and there was mention of Dennis Sheehan and the story about how he's responsible for starting the crowd chant of the refrain.

The big screen was used expertly and provided a great view of everything going on when the band members were in different places throughout the show. Bono, since the earliest days at the Paradise has needed a connection to the audience and always had a penchant for "climbing things" in order to be closer to the fans. This tour provides an outlet for that penchant and does the best job of creating that connection I've ever seen, whilst keeping Bono far safer than the early days of climbing balconies.

Audience

Boston has always been U2's home-away-from-home, and we fans have always known it and loved it. Last night's show was no exception. And while the set list may not indicate that the show was better because it was Boston, the mood in the Garden and every one of us die-hard U2 fans knew that there was something just a little more special about that show than all the rest on this tour.

Bono seemed to revel in the audience carrying most of With or Without You, and Boston fans, we sounded AWESOME! It was a bone-chilling experience. And we did it again with Elevation, Pride, Bad and 40.

The Spanish countdown to Elevation was tremendous, With or Without You chilling, Pride inspiring, Bad and 40, very emotionally moving. The fans did NOT let me down last night

Overall

I've lost count of how many times I've seen them. Well over 20 at this point. In the 30 years I've been going to their shows this is, in my opinion, the best show I've seen them put on. Maybe it's the fact that they hit EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. of my favorite songs, without exception. Maybe it's the fact that it was Boston. Maybe it's because, after 30+ years, these guys are just so well polished they can't fail to deliver. Maybe it's all of those things.

This album, to me, is the best since ATYCLB. Not quite as good as TUF or JT. But then, those were *my* formative years as well. But this album, and tour, like the band's, has been a time of reflection of my own past growing up with their music. I was beyond excited for last night's show. And yet, despite having listened to almost every show on this tour so far, and knowing well ahead of time what to expect, I STILL could not contain my excitement for last night's show. And they lived up to my expectations and exceeded them. Bootlegs do not compare to being there in person. They're a great substitute if you can't be there, but they just don't replace that religious experience.
