Performance

After following the i+e tour online for most of the summer, it was great to finally catch the band live again toward the end of the 1st leg. They truly were "on" this night...certainly comparable to the better shows I heard online... and far better than a few weeks earlier when Bono was clearly fighting a cold.

Memorable moments - beyond the set itself - included the fun interplay with Marcella from Columbia during Mysterious Ways and Lucifer's Hands - and Paolo from Brazil on the guitar for All I Want is You.

Sound

BigGiRL is waaay too modest. I know this is a mixlr...but this does NOT sound like a 3star recording... and if it were not for a very few spots here and there of people talking around the taper, I'd be tempted to rate this even higher!!!
Recording: "Down That Old 8 Lane" - 3 stars

Audience

I was in GA on the South Side. Since this was my only show this year I wanted to see as much as possible and placed myself in a spot that was not heavily fought for - Just outside the RedZone fence and as close to the center of the catwalk as possible. This worked out great as I could see both stages well, the entire screen and had the band front in center for many good chunks of the show.

MOST of the people around me were great and really into the show. From my vantage point - the larger crowd was REALLY loving it! I had to deduct a star just because of the couple of groups of "overage frat boys" who placed themselves near my friend and I for the early part of the show...several of them almost got into a fight and had to be escorted away by security. Fortunately that was over with early in the set - and for the rest of the show everything was great!!!

Overall

This was not my first U2 show (although at just my 6th I know I'm far behind a good chunk of the folks on this site!)... it was, however, my first time traveling to see the band. In the past, I've just seen them in whatever city I've lived in at the time. I still think they'll be back to NA next year... but I simply wasn't willing to wait!

Arrived in NYC the morning of the first show...and followed excitedly and closely until Thursday finally came.

Knew with the stage setup I wouldn't have to arrive super early for the GA line - so arrived around 4:00 and went straight to the merch stand to pick up the "shirt of the night" (army green). Was shocked to find out that the first batch were already gone - but was rewarded for waiting about half and hour when some more were delivered...easily my favorite concert shirt I've had.

Had about two hours in the GA line meeting some awesome folks both from NY and others who had traveled like me.

Let in around 6:30 - was surprised to get the choice between North Side and South Side... picked South Side - not really b/c I was picking Edge over Adam but because my friend is more of a casual fan and I figured she'd be more excited about Edge...we then proceeded directly to the outside of the RedZone gate as I described above.

Now for the show... if you've been to this tour live... you know. If you haven't... make every effort to do so... How they out-innovated 360... I don't know... but they did!

Some highlights for me of this specific show:
-The Electric Co. and All I Want Is You - two classics I had never seen live before - one blew me away and the other was simply beautiful
-Lucifer's Hands. Very cool to see a song live that (to date) has only ever been performed 3 times. Playing a song that only appeared on the extended version of the album - clearly something aimed at the real fans.
-The knowledge that - set-list wise - this was probably the most unique of the MSG shows (3 songs not repeated, Wanderer intermission, less common closing song with Still Haven't Found, and last of the shows with the "jumbled up" 2nd set.

All in all - top notch! Now I can only hope that the final tweet of the NA leg "See you soon" is a sign of things to come!
