Performance

Wow! What an incredible evening. U2 at the O2. Bono comes up on the the stage on his own at the start and it is quite clear that the crowd absolutely adore him. The self proclaimed clown of this big circus we call U2. The opening songs were a statement of intent and came across like an incendiary punk band in a sweaty club. Electric Co was blistering. All this without any of the screens and fancy lights. It just got better ... The huge screen descended and Bono took us for a walk down Cedarwood Road, we met Iris and Until The End of the World was as intense and apocalyptic as any ZooTv performance. The second half was no different. Bono messing up the opening of Every Breaking Wave and asking Edge to "take it from the top" before starting again was an amusing moment that had the crowd cheering and laughing. Only Bono could get a cheer from a mistake. A full band version of Desire was a treat as was a beautiful All I Want is You. The best was yet to come though. The band were feeding off the energy from the O2 crowd and clearly feeling something special which lifted the closing trio of warhorses through the roof - Streets was as euphoric as ever, Pride - a much maligned song of late - was like a new song, reborn and re energised and when With or Without You ended with Bono launching in to Shine Like Stars, I kid you not, there were grown men in tears. A U2 concert is something different to any other band's concert I have seen. A connection on an emotional level that resonates and continues to do so. Unbelievable.

Overall

My sixth U2 show since I started going to see them in the 90's but more importantly, the first I have taken my teenage daughter to, who I have promised I would take "next time they tour" for the last five years. A moment neither of us will ever forget.
