Performance

Smmoooooth. Pretty sure I've got a Lovetown Tour bootleg where Bono says "It's a dirty job but somebody's got to do it", well in all fairness they're still doing it and they're still doing it pretty good !!! Effortless timing and links but not only a gig or a concert but a show that the band seemed to really enjoy too and a show that I'll remember for some time.

Sound

Cracking recording . It's just short of being perfect which is my preference anyway because it has a "being there" sound where you can turn up the volume, close your eyes and imagine that you're there all over again. Full credit to the taper for having the nerve to, I assume, sneak equipment in and run the risk of being caught, and then to post it for us thickies to download and enjoy.
Recording: Audience microphone - 4 stars

Audience

Up in the gods (Edge's side) the majority of the audience seemed happy to be seated ...... apart from me and few others. I Will Follow and SBS got a few more oldies out of their seats but most others waited for Streets before almost all around me rose as one and stayed standing for the rest of the show.

Overall

I'm 49 years old and a U2 fan since 1982 and got to see them live at Wembley Joshua Tree, Wembley Zoo TV (twice), Birmingham Elevation and Manchester Vertigo. And now I've seen them in London again and everytime I've had to travel from Sunderland .... these guys are expensive to watch when travelling so far needs overnight stays on top of ticket prices etc.
Truth is that I couldn't afford this trip but the lack of information about follow-up tours led me to jump in when extra London shows were announced. I dragged my 17 year old Daughter along for education purposes. She's grown up hearing U2 around her but her musical taste is the likes of Fall Out Boy, 30 Seconds To Mars and Lady Gaga, so it was time she witnessed how it was to be entertained.
A 10.38 train from Durham, views of fog for most of the journey, and into a Travelodge near Kings Cross by 2.15. Freshened up, camera (check), cash (check), tickets (check), jacket (check), Dad you got the tickets ? (check), phone (check), tummy feels a bit iffy...probably the excitement (check), tickets (check ... again), and we're off to the O2 ...... after checking I had the tickets again
Wow the O2 was good with an excellent choice of about 15-20 restaurants and bars. My Daughter is a fussy eater like most teens so we opted for Frankie & Bennys and enjoyed a lovely burger washed down with a couple of pints of Stella .... and a vanilla cheescake (naughty but nice). Texts to the Wife confirmed that we couldn't afford what we'd eaten and we couldn't afford the £50 for the Tshirts that we were going to buy .... decided to worry about that next week and off to the merchandise stall. Megs got the blue I&E shirt while I opted for the 'If there is a light' with the light bulb t shirt - I like the idea that strangers would look and have to think what it's about.
Into the arena when the gates opened. The seats were cramped with little leg room, I'm only 5'7" so I imagine anyone bigger wouldn't have been too comfortable.
The show was everything I'd hoped and expected with a good mix of songs from different albums, I especially enjoyed the older stuff like Follow and SBS while Edge's piano for October was almost haunting. Meanwhile I was leading the way in the 'Dad Dancing', often on my own but I didn't care. Megs tapped me on the shoulder during 'Volcano' and uttered the immortal phrase, "Dad, this is awesome". Her education was complete

A lovely sightseeing day on Tuesday with my Princess and a late train home, aching and tired.
A trip that cost me £482 ... but Megs and I really enjoyed it. I only hope that my wonderful wife gets half as much enjoyment out of worrying over how we're going to pay for it
