Performance

Bono's voice survived an opening night unscathed, which doesn't always happen!

After WOWY, things seemed to just start being less effective. The Trump video didn't really fit, and it seemed to mess up Bono's timing on Exit. In fact, the vocals didn't really seem to sync with the music until halfway through the song. Ultraviolet (despite being one of my favorites) seemed to get lost in the "HERStory" message, and Miss Sarajevo fell totally flat despite some really amazing visuals by Anton Corbijn.

I wanted to love RHMT but it didn't seem quite together - really hoping it evolves and improves through the tour.

TUF was amazing - great modernization of the beginning of the song.

Generally, it felt like there was only a fraction of the usual amount of crowd interaction. We were right on the b-stage railing and unless you were at the very tip of the b-stage, there wasn't a lot of closeness to the band.

Audience

The crowd was ecstatic until the end of WOWY. Excited singalongs, especially during TUF. There was a palpable awe as the screen came into full effect during Streets/ISHF/WOWY.

Things were steadily downhill in the crowd from there. I think non-obsessed fans only THINK they love all of JT, because the singalong really diminished until the encore.

And OH THE ENCORE. The encore didn't work for the audience from beginning to end. People didn't know whether to look at the band or the screen. The slow-paced song selection didn't have any crescendo and the closing combo of MS and TLTTGYA had nearly everyone in the stadium answering Bono's rhetorical closing "Is that good?" with a confused "uh, not really..."

Overall

I've seen U2 12 times and listened to a truly wacky number of shows, and this one is at the bottom of the lists of both what I've seen and what I've listened to.

It's one of very few U2 shows that IMO seem to have lost momentum in the second half, rather than gaining. Opening nights in Barcelona (360) and Vancouver (I+E) had some gaffes and glitches, but the energy level was great. On this night, the energy level was not what one would expect from both the band and the crowd.
