Performance

This is the show I wanted to hear on the i+e Tour in 2015! They did a fantastic job of not only recreating the feel of the 1987 Joshua Tree tour, but also a great job of weaving in post-Joshua Tree songs in the second set.

I was ecstatic they brought back SBS and played it the way it was supposed to be played, rather than the abomination they came up with for the i+e tour.

BTBS was amazing, as was Bad!

My only disappointment was not closing the show with "40". In my opinion, that should be the closer to every show, but even more so for the Joshua Tree Tour, since that's how they did it 30 years ago. Getting to hear a new, unreleased song was great, but since no one knows it, the crowd became way too subdued for the last song of the show. Contrast that with 40; the entire stadium would have sung that refrain out into the parking lot!

Audience

The stadium looked pretty full. I'd be surprised if wasn't a sold-out show. From the opening notes of SBS to the closing. From the opening notes of SBS and through every song until the last, the crowd was pretty engaged. The last song lost a lot of people. Stadiums, by there nature, open up the show to a larger, more varied, somewhat less-fanatical on average, audience than do arenas. As a result, participation & engagement in stadiums always seems slightly less than in the more intimate setting of the smaller arenas.

But, the crowd was there, they were definitely into it. Just not as much on the very last song, and somewhat less on average than if this were an arena tour instead.

Overall

This show was outstanding. Even more so if you were lucky enough to see this tour 30 years ago the first time around. In my opinion, I think it might have been better than 30 years ago in many ways. As a band, they are older, more seasoned, better polished, and have just had a long time to really hone their skills at playing these tunes.

I've been listening to the 1987 shows, and they're great, but I really think some of the variations of the same songs played live today sound better than they did 30 years ago.
