1986-01-30 - Dublin, Ireland - RTE2 Studios

setlist

Performance notes: U2 appear on a late night Irish television show called TV Gaga and play two new songs. One, Womanfish, has never been performed elsewhere or released in any form; Bono claims it is about a mermaid the band met in America. The other is a very early version of Trip Through Your Wires introduced as "I Trip Through Your Wires", during which Bono sings "in this town" repeatedly. After these two songs, the band cover a Bob Dylan song to conclude their set. The set is ramshackle and the band are almost certainly drunk, particularly Bono.

Performance

The band are almost certanly drunk as everybody knows particularly Bono but it is great to hear this song "Womanfish" which Edge said basically never saw the light of day except for this TV Gaga programme on RTE. It's also great to hear an eraly version of "Trip Through Your Wires" and a cover of "Knockin' On Heavens Door". Good performance but a drunk one. quite funny if you watch on youtube too.

Sound

The sound is quite good although a bit muffled and I have to admit it sounds nothing like an audience recording it sounds almost like an old soundboard. You can't hear the crowd between songs at all and you can hear the band perfectly on all the songs.
Recording: Audience microphone - 5 stars

Audience

They all clapped and cheered and gave them all support. They even encouraged the band to come back and play a Bob Dylan cover.

Overall

Great addition to your collection especially for Womanfish.
Highs:
Womanfish - Desprate song but interesting (and funny too)
Trip Through Your Wires - An interesting early version with different lyrics
Knockin' On Heavens Door - Really good but for some reason the song suddenly stops at the end
Lows:
They were drunk (although due to this Bono makes some funny speeches)
Good for your collection but if your not that interested in 1 off performance songs it's not for you
