Performance

There’s little to fault in this young bands performance. MattG noted this was the sixth consecutive night on the road and for the most part you can’t tell. Towards the end of the main set Bono does sound like he’s struggling to keep pace with the band as they tear through their early rockers without a care in the world. As always there’s some songs quite confined to this era that are nice to hear, Surrender, I Threw A Brick/A Day Without Me, and Two Hearts Beat As One. Steve Wickham joins the band for Sunday Bloody Sunday and Tomorrow and it makes for two stand out performances of those songs. Bono starts to sing “All I want is you” during Out of Control and the crowd pick it up as though it is part of the song itself. There’s an uncredited snippet of Drowning Man in 11 O’Clock Tick Tock which is nice and there’s a truly bizarre 6+ minute performance of Party Girl where Bono changes the lyrics entirely to start improvising something around nursery rhyme Jack And Jill.

Sound

For its age, it’s a pretty good recording. Everyone comes through clear enough, it is a little harsh in places and the sound does occasionally pan off centre but all in all it’s good.
Recording: "Master Tape Transfer 2017" - 4.5 stars

Audience

Generally a good audience, I think LikeASong pointed out that at this stage of the tour War was still quite a fresh album but for a young band making their way in the world, the audience is very receptive. Even picking up that strange “All I want is you” during Out of Control. It sounds like they had a cracking night out and I think Bono fed off it a little.

Overall

Really enjoyable listen overall, the band are in great form and Bono seems really relaxed. There are some hidden curiosities in the show and a very welcomed guest appearance in Sunday Bloody Sunday and Tomorrow. The Boy and October tracks at this point are pretty much nailed and the new additions from War are settling in nicely.
