Performance

Not a classic for me. Certainly not memorable. One of those ones where it’s hard to say what. It’s a show that still sounds like 1980 U2 but they are six weeks out from Red Rocks and a year away from Bad and Pride. A ruddy good historical document. I love the transition from Brick and Party Girl was batshit. I was two thirds through SBS before I even noticed the violin! It sounded excellent and they should have revisited a guest string player at some point since. Tomorrow is haunting.

If you want War Tour then go for May onwards. They just transitioned into something different very soon after this show. A maturity and confidence found them just about when these shows were being played.

Sound

I was amazed to read that this is an audience recording. It sounds like a generation too many soundboard recording which is both a compliment and a negative. It’s punchy but quite sterile, hollow and harsh at times. Absolutely listenable though.
Recording: "Master Tape Transfer 2017" - 4.5 stars

Audience

Very decent I thought. There was an atmosphere in the room that the recording doesn’t quite capture. It felt like it was a lot of people’s first U2 show.

Overall

It’s a good document of where the band where at in March 83. There are better shows around but this was a very busy time for the band and they can’t be legendary every night of the week. For me though go get Red Rocks, Barrowlands, Devore or Loreley for shows that kick on from being just good to bloody excellent.
