Performance

The opening night of the European leg of The Joshua Tree tour is a rather interesting performance from the band, all things considered, as it gets off to a great start with the band sounding great and remaining tight throughout the show, along with Bono sounding decent albeit a bit rough in places when he overdoes his aggressive deliveries with his "sore voice" however, Bono significantly weakens from Sunday Bloody Sunday onwards and never sounds as good as he does during the first half of the show again which is a shame because had he maintained his vocal state throughout I could have seen myself giving the performance four stars at least.

Sound

A good sounding recording and, in my opinion, the better version when compared to the "Native Son" version as it sounds more "natural" to me and doesn't have the bass boosted. The only flaw with this recording is that it gives Bono a lisp, but if you can get past that, it's a very enjoyable recording that even highlights Edge's backing vocals on some songs. I wish the audience were more audible on the recording, but that's just my preference.
Recording: "Earthquake In Rome" aka "Blown By The Wind" - 4 stars

Audience

Standard Italian Audience Greatness, I don't need to say more.

Overall

An interesting performance for the opening show of the European leg of The Joshua Tree tour featuring a great first half that starts the leg off well with everyone truly starting to fully settle in and get the hang of it by now. However, the real flaw of this show is the 2nd half of the show from Sunday Bloody Sunday onwards, as Bono weakens and lets the performance down a bit to which he entirely weakens down by Bad and spends the rest of the set speak-singing, straining his way through songs when he tries the higher and demanding sections, drops melodies to fit his ailing voice and flat out gives up in places and gives the songs to Edge and the audience. It's also a shame that the set is quite basic with a shortened down set, but still a rather intriguing listen.
