And thank you to those that have patiently waited for me to get around to this one, here is the second night in Ft. Worth during the Joshua Tree tour from a fresh, azimuth adjusted, transfer from my master tapes.
This one replaces any other circulating transfers and there appears to be quite a few. I think there are some 1st gen transfers floating around as well as my feeble attempts at a transfer before I really knew what I was doing. In the past I tried to hard to tweak it using equipment that was below par when in fact it's as good as it gets straight from the masters with azimuth adjusted. Only one very subtle tweak, Bono's vocals were just a tad back in the mix and I pulled them up just a touch (315hz+1.8dB, 400hz+2dB, 500hz+1.2dB, 630hz+.6dB). It's extremely subtle and is just enough to balance the mix just right.
To get the full effect of this one, I suggest you play it on your best stereo (no headphones) and don't hold back on the volume, pushing the volume is what really seems to make it shine. All instruments are clean and clear and I particularly love the punch of Adam's bass.
Finally, the performance is excellent and since they were recording this run of shows and likely because BB King is in the house they seem to step it up a notch compared to the show on the 23rd.
For those that may not already know, this was the debut Live performance of "When Love Comes To Town" and the only version to contain a third verse that doesn't appear in any other version studio or live version.
I provided a number of samples and have been asked a number of times about the equipment used to tape so I've attached a photo below as well.
Enjoy!
