1989-12-01 - Osaka, Japan - Osaka Castle Hall

setlist

Performance notes: This concert is often said to have somewhat of a "backwards setlist", due to the presence of songs normally played late in the set appearing in its early stages, such as Pride and New Year's Day, while the main set staple trio of Desire, All Along The Watchtower, and All I Want Is You is in the encore. Also noteworthy is the first performance of Slow Dancing in concert - nearly four years before its first official studio release! Bono had previously sung some of the song on Australian radio in October 1989.

Performance

The band is solid here, I'm not particularly in love with Bono's vocals but it's better than alot of other Lovetown shows. I thought Larry stood out to me as having a really good night in particular. Good performance but not spectacular.

Sound

A worthy four star sound in my opinion. Not particularly loud but the quality is very good.

Audience

Not sure if it's the recording or not but the audience is barely audible to me at all. Even on the spots where you'd expect to really here them. Wasn't particularly impressed with the Osaka crowd.

Overall

I thought the show got off to a bit of a slow start with Pride and New Years Day. That said the very opening with Stand by Me was incredible. One of my highlights.

I didn't particularly love this version of Streets but the segue from One Tree Hill was very cool. I loved One Tree Hill on this show.

Also Love Rescue Me/Amazing Grace really stands out as one of the highlights from the show.

All in all a solid lovetown show. Doesnt get me going quite like the Point Depot shows but a very good bootleg and worth a listen nonetheless. Good Selection for the start of the roundtable.
