Performance

A 3 star performance from the band. Some highlights but also some technical issues and distractions.

We all know what to expect from a ZOO TV show, and normally the highlight of a ZOO TV show is the Achtung Baby songs at the start of the show. However, something about how these Achtung Baby songs at this show didn't quite catch my attention, and I would put this down to the show being in the first leg and the band still working out how to perform these new songs.

The show starts off well with "I Could Have Lost You" and segues fairly well into "Zoo Station". However, and it might have something to do with the recording, "Zoo Station" didn't quite pack the punch that it normally did as an opener during the Zoo TV era. "The Fly" is then the next song and there are a couple of issues. It sounds like The Edge is having some guitar issues, whilst also missing some of his backing vocals. It is clear that this performance of "The Fly" isn't as polished as other ZOO TV performances.

"Even Better Than The Real Thing" was a tad disappointing as there wasn't the TV Surfing channel segment. "One" was a fairly solid performance with a rough "Hear us coming" snippet. The song of the evening for me was probably "Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses". The general performance of the song was a bit sloppy, but the segue from "Until The End Of The World" was great, and it felt like Bono was having some fun throughout the song.

It was nice to hear Adam talking before "Tryin' To Throw Your Arms Around The World". That was a nice surprise. "Angel of Harlem" normally goes down quite well in ZOO TV shows but I don't think the audience were quite up for it this night.

Despite being a cover, "Satellite of Love" is also thought as being a highlight from the ZOO TV Tour. The performance from this night though once again didn't really do anything for me - which was disappointing. However, what followed completely blew me away. We all know what to expect from "Bad" but the performance surprised me in a very good way. It was a very lively performance which also had me singing along, and finished with a beautiful "All I Want Is You" snippet.

Following "Bad" was a song that I don't particularly like, but the performance impressed me a lot, and I think that was mainly due to The Edge's solo. "Bullet The Blue Sky" really packed a punch in this show, and was followed by "Running To Stand Still". As expected from the ZOO TV era, this segued into "Where The Streets Have No Name. A bit like "The Fly" earlier, this performance of the song seemed to have a few technical issues, and Bono got distracted by someone in the crowd (I think). However, the long intro of the song was included and that is always a bonus.

"Pride" was a fairly average performance but I was pleasantly surprised by "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" and the crowd soaked it up well. "Desire" as a song itself doesn't really do anything for me and this performance does nothing to change that. "Ultraviolet" has seen better performances and even though "With Or Without You" included the "Shine Like Stars" snippet and The Edge's solo, I'm not really a fan of the ZOO TV version of the song, so it was a bit meh for me. Love is Blindness was a solid performance and closed this show well.

Overall it was a good show to listen to and it did have its moments. It was also very sloppy in places. There are better shows out there to listen to from the ZOO TV tour.

Sound

A very good audience recording and it justifies its 4 star rating. If you're not into audience recordings, and don't like hearing screaming or general crowd noise then maybe it isn't for you but it was perfectly fine for me. You could hear Bono well, as well as The Edge and Larry. Couldn't really hear Adam that much. As always I would suggest to listen with headphones.
Recording: "Bono Is A Dinky Trabant" - 3.5 stars

Audience

The audience seemed fairly into it throughout the whole show.

Overall

Good setlist and some good performances of some songs. However, there are clear issues throughout the show.
