"Bono volunteered me to be photographed naked, as I recall. I was still a young man and the idea of doing a nude photo shoot appealed to me because I'd been looking at Robert Mapplethorpe's work and following that whole New York photographic art scene. I knew there might be repercussions but this was a one-shot opportunity for me. This was the right record for such an expression."

In the live performance of 'The Electric Co.' from 1983's Under A Blood Red Sky, Bono sang a snippet of Stephen Sondheim's 'Send In The Clowns'. U2 had failed to get permission for this 27-second snippet and later agreed to pay a $50,000 penalty as well as removing the snippet from later pressings.
