"I said no to other U2 fans asking me to go with them to the 1987 show in Rotterdam"
Tell us something about yourself, who are you and what do you do for a living?
Hi, i'm Marc from the Netherlands and i'm 40 years of age and i work as a warehouse supervisor in an electrical company.
How did you become a fan of U2, tell us how it happened?
In 1987 when i was 13 i hang out with some older guys and they where U2 fans and asked me if i go with them to the Rotterdam shows. They where very excited to go because they also had gone to the Ahoy 1984 shows. I said NO because i was into RUN DMC, Beastie Boys and Public Enemy back then. I lost these guys out of sight and never gone to a U2 show with them. Till 1998 i was into Rap/Hiphop after that i became a rock fan.. mostly R.E.M. and U2.
Did you ever have a special U2 experience like a live concert? Can you tell us something about it?
I did not meet anyone from U2 so the best experience for me so far was hearing "Miss Sarajevo" in Amsterdam 2005-07-16 (first time played after 1997-09-23 Sarajevo)
Where do you most prefer to listen to U2?
At home, in my car and on my bicycle.
In a house fire, which one of your U2 items would you save?
I'm not collecting items, but my bootlegs are covered on an extra external harddisk on my work.
Can you tell us one song (U2 or not) that you wish you had written?
one song... difficult but i wish i had written "Daddy's Gonna Pay For Your Crashed Car"
What is your favorite U2 bootleg, and why? Do you often listen to bootlegs?
You have to hear U2 live that's why i listen to bootlegs, my favorite one is the first one i ever downloaded... 1993-08-28 Dublin - Zoo Europa
What is your favorite U2 videoclip, and why?
New Year's Day... The Edge is always complaining about the video shoot in cold weather.
How different is U2 compared to other artists that you like?
It's very different after the R.E.M. break up... feels like i haven't got a second band anymore!
What are your hobbies and interests away from U2, musical or otherwise?
I ride with my bike through the dunes play on my ps3 and i like to watch series like 24 and CSI.
Thanks for this interview one8ung!

"It was quite hard for the band to shift from having played to loops of other people to playing to loops of themselves. We felt it was essential to do that, though, because you can get very lazy with samples. They're an easy way to get the ball rolling, but you're always in danger of sounding like some basic samples with the band on top. You're in danger of being dictated to by what's there, rather than saying: 'this is just our springboard'."
