So lately I’ve had some time on my hands and played a lot of CMIPalaeo’s excellent quizzes on Sporcle. I then decided to try creating some of my own… and then I got carried away and created 23 of them. So I present to you for your pleasure…
The U2 trivia competition!
The tour is over for now and no new album announcement yet… What to do? Well you can pass the time by testing your U2 trivia knowledge in this quiz game. The trivia ranges anywhere from obscure films to the time Bono lost a Grammy Award to Brandy & Monica, from the Zoo TV condoms to Bono’s fake leopard-skinned interior Ford Cortina, from album sequencing to questionable lyric quality, etc… You will be playing for a total of 1501 points!
So if you are interested in participating the rules are simple:
- This is a ‘books closed’ game. That means you can only use your memory (no googling, no checking your U2 collection, no books, etc…).
- You can do the quizzes in whatever order you wish and whenever you wish.
- If you wish to share your results, please copy the scoreboard at the end of this post.
- To be fair, please only share your score for your first attempt at a quiz.
- You can update and share your scoreboard as you go along (simply edit your post) or once you’ve completed the entire quiz. As you wish.
Note: The quizzes are quite extensive so mistakes or glitches are not impossible. If you find any feel free to communicate them in the thread and I’ll do my best to correct them.
Category 1: Quotes
In this quiz you have 10 minutes to answer questions concerning 40 quotes involving U2 in some way or another.
Category 2: U2 in numbers
Here you have 7 minutes to pick the correct numbers to fill in 41 U2 facts.
Category 3: Lyrics
- Frequent nouns: Can you guess (with the help of hints) the 20 most frequently occurring nouns in Bono’s lyrics? No too hard so you have 3 minutes.
- Uncommon nouns: Can you guess 20 nouns or names which only occur once in Bono’s lyrics? A bit harder so you have 7 minutes.
- Questionable lyric quality: Many of Bono’s lyrics are praised by U2 fans. However some have fallen from grace or are downright despised among some fans. In this quiz you have 7 minutes to remember 12 of them.
- Hidden lyric 1: Simply fill in the lyrics to this U2 song. You have 7 minutes.
- Hidden lyric 2: Simply fill in the lyrics to this U2 song. You have 7 minutes.
- Hidden lyric 3: Simply fill in the lyrics to this U2 song. You have 7 minutes.
Category 4: Music videos
You will be shown 32 frames taken from various U2 music videos. You have 4 minutes to identify which song the video is associated with.
Category 5: Locations
- Various locations: You have 5 minutes to answer 29 questions about locations involving U2.
- 360 Tour cities: You have 6 minutes to name as many cities as you can in which U2 played during the European legs of the 360 Tour.
- Joshua Tree Tour cities: A bit harder this one - You have 10 minutes to name as many cities as you can in which U2 played during the North American legs of The Joshua Tree Tour.
Category 6: U2 and films
- Film list: Here you have 20 minutes to name as many films (documentaries excluded) as you can that either have a U2 song or a song written/co-written or performed by a band member. Good luck!
- Original Soundtracks 1: Can you remember the names of the fictional/non-fictional films associated to each song of this album? You have 7
minutes.
Category 7: 1 degree of separation
Here you will be shown the names of 17 people that have been involved with U2 in some form or another. Can you give there names in under 3 minutes?
Category 8: Songs
You have 18 minutes to name as many U2 album songs, Passengers songs and non-album singles as you can.
Category 9: Album sequencing
Speed round: You have 3 minutes to answer 17 questions concerning the sequencing of U2 albums. Careful! One wrong answer and the quiz is over.
Category 10: Audio clips
- Sound-Alike: A more subjective quiz this one. You will listen to 7 audio clips of songs from other artists and one song from a U2 collaboration. Can you guess to which U2 songs they sound similar to?
- Bootlegs: You will listen to audio clips from 15 well known and loved U2 bootlegs. Can you simply give the name of the city each bootleg was recorded in?
- 1 second clips: A classic quiz type this one. You will listen to 30 1-second audio clips from U2 songs that you need to identify. (Tip: no songs from Original Soundtracks 1, no live performance clips but not all songs are album songs.)

Category 11: Stage, Props And Costumes
You have 4 minutes to answer 16 questions concerning U2 stages, props and costumes.
Category 13: Accidents, Misfortunes and Crime
You have 5 minutes to answer questions about accidents, misfortunes and crimes involving U2 in some form or another.
This is a huge time consuming thing, but also really interesting and fascinating - if you want to waste a full morning lol I haven't finished all of them. It's a shame they're not updated and SOE (or anything U2 related after 2014) isn't included, you have to be careful with that regarding tour/awards/etc questions.
