1. I posted this reply elsewhere but I wanted to create a thread to gather thoughts from others on here.

I am making a reference from 360 tour in this post as 360 was a big favorite of mine in terms of Bono's voice. And the the changes in his voice from 2009 - 2015 were huge and not for the best!!

This is the one thing that bugs me with his voice these days, if you listen to performances from 360 you can hear there's always a deep layer in everything he is singing. His voice even talking just sounds deeper with more feeling. Bono's voice also hardly ever broke all all during 360 it really was impressive.

Fast forward to SOI and 2015. An huge change for the worse and now we are hearing an incredibly thin and almost nasally sounding voice from bono. As if he has lost all of his lower range and now has to rely on one particular range to sing every song in.

These days he is sounding very thin and almost shouting these songs at us, it might sound harsh but I don't understand why he can't sing like he did in 360 anymore? Is this intentional, is he having vocal lessons?

His voice is incredible still but one thing that bugs me so much is how nasally his voice is. If only he could just relax a bit more and bring out some more lower range, similar that to the 360 tour, please don't tell me there's no difference because imo there's a huge difference
  2. It's probably got a lot to do with the fact that the bloke's 57. . .
  3. He's a lazy vocalist these days. I can deal with that actual change in tone but his breathing and timing can be all over the place. He was particularly bad during RTSS. Even with a click track he managed to be all over the place.

I'm not sure if he was has one but I think if he spent some time with a vocal coach looking at the technical side of singing then we'd see some great improvements.
  4. That's one thing I didn't mention, but you're probably right ?

I believe if he did work with a great vocal coach who would guide him the best way to sing these songs. We would get the maximum out of his voice at 57 years of age. That's not to say that Bono needs directing, of course he doesn't! But in order to get the maximum out of him while we still can I think it would work wonders
  6. It's weird because if you hear Bono talk today he actually thinks his voice has improved over the years. He will say he can't listen to the original JT shows with him singing because he hates it, even though it's amazing.
  7. I think he sounds amazing. Very full to my ears.. i reference Little Things....he sounds more natural to my ears
  8. A fan since 1984, the main reason I didn't attend any of the SOI-concerts was Bono's voice. I didn't think I would stand listening to it for more than two hours. That was the peak of the strained voice, as we can hear it first on NLOTH (album version - killing an otherwise excellent song), and getting thinner through the 360 years. This tour I think his voice actually has improved a bit: even RHMT is enjoyable.
Ageing, that old smoking, 40 years of singing and shouting (and talking ?) leaves their marks of course.
  9. Just be glad he doesn't soud like Bon Jovi yet. The last show I saw was 360 in Melbourne so if U2 come back next year or even this year which I doubt, I can straight away see how bad/good Bono is compared to 360
  10. I think Bono sounds fantastic and he also did on I+E, at least on those shows I have attended (in Europe - I read that his voice improved in Europe on both tours). I saw 3 360 shows and while in Berlin and Vienna he sounded fine, in Poland his voice sounded somehow strange, like he was on helium. I think he sounds waaay better than 20 years ago during PopMart and even better than during the Elevation tour.
  11. Bono is getting older so simple is that. To me it looks like Bono is not a person who pays lots of attention to his his personal health and condition. But maybe I am wrong.
Listening to many concertrecordings over 30 years, to my opinion his voice varies from show to show.
  12. Top Bono's voice was for me for " Miss Saraievo" in Milan Vertigo tour july 2005. His voice is always changing in different tours and records, it's fantastic and i think it will be great for long time. God bless him.
