1. SO.

    The time has come.

    THAT time has come.

After months and months (and some more months) (even years actually) of waiting, here we are. Gathered around our campfire, with a couple of beers and Coke cans, someone has brought some tortilla and some chips, and someone has brought a guitar and a harmonica. Great times.

Now that awkward guy sitting on the corner has put his glasses on, and starts reading...

Good evening and welcome, fellow U2start'ers. I'm your emcee, Matt - please take your seats.

Welcome to our awards ceremony! This is the moment you've all been waiting for - our results. Please bear in mind that the selection process for these awards can sometimes take years, so please respect the hard, dedicated work that went into choosing your winners!

One final note - if we poke fun at you in our congratulatory notes below, keep in mind that its all in fun and take it in stride

Without any further ado - The Results!

    Prom Queen: MacStripey
Her mantra may be “Walk On”, but she’s certainly running away with this category! Kirsten once again earns the coveted tiara. No dust has collected on it since last century’s awards, though - she’s kept it on this whole time!

    Runner-up: BigGirl
A well-deserved (and pretty close!) award for one of our best contributors, now also a crew member. Joyce, worry not: you’ve got plenty of years to campaign for “next year’s” awards!

    Prom King: Remy
In what we can only assume has been some election-fixing, our fearless leader and site-keeper Remy also retains the crown from the previous ceremony. Since we suspect Remy paid off Google to infiltrate our spreadsheet and capture the win, we’re demoting his crown to U2BROTHR’s mirrorball helmet.

    Runner-up: iTim

    WTF Poster: Birdman987
“A friend who said to me, that they "really didn't like U2", liked a Facebook post about someone else's girlfriend taking them to see the Book of Mormon. Is it just me, or is that horribly wrong?”
“I may be the only U2 fan that knows this, but the original Joshua Tree tour was the very first time that the band played the song Bad, as part of a meta-setlist”.
“The Edge posted plans of the stage, on his private Instagram, that only I can see”.
“One of my favourite U2 moments, was when I discovered that the 'rotating woman' image, stood as symbolism for ejaculation”.
    -Birdman987, self-explanatory award.

    Runner-up: Fly40
This card-holding member of U2.com means well and keeps us smiling, but we’ll-be-darned if sometimes we don’t quite know what he means.

    High Quality: TIE - cesar_garza & Bloodraven
The best category to have a tie in might as well be the high quality one. The main reason we started these awards was to highlight the fun and camaraderie between members, so we’re happy to let you share the throne. First one to listen all the way through “Stand Up Comedy” officially wins!

    Best Taste in Music: blueeyedboy
What truly makes Greg’s taste the best is that he shares it with all of us in various threads. Just in the past month he’s shared wonderful artists like Will Hoge and Foxygen amongst classics like Duran Duran. We tried to find something he’d shared to be snarky about here, but we genuinely couldn’t find anything less than great!

    Runner-up: flowerchild
Over the din of blueeyedboy shouting to keep your paws off his vinyl, Jana often reminds us of some of these easier-to-forget U2 songs, with recent examples being “The Troubles” and “Big Girls are Best”.

    Questionable Taste in Music: DutchU2Fan
Did we misspell the category “Most questionable taste in MUSE-ic?!”. Tim might be a fan of some great bands, but every now and then he throws us a curve ball… Well, judge for yourself: “DutchU2Fan: Gangnam Style is a masterpiece and way better than Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, so yeah they are not on the same level”.

    Newcomer of the Year: Mofothethird
Joyce joined us over 8 years ago, but didn’t really start engaging with the forum until recently. Nevertheless, she has soon earned a place in our hear...ehr, keyboards! Whether it is at the photography thread or sharing her tour experiences, we can only congratulate ourselves for having this newcomer around!

    Lifetime Achievement Award: Remy
At 31 years old (that’s 74 in forum-years) and the longest-registered member of U2start (something that's actually pretty in line with being the creator of it, if tou stop to think), Remy is awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award. He will make his acceptance speech as soon as the gigantic lemon he’s trapped inside opens up.

    Runner-up: Ali709
One of your long term forum mates, he has been around since we at U2start went around hunting prehistoric animals with sticks and stones. While we have stayed just as Palaeolithical, he has since become a Doctor. A damn Doctor in Robotics and Computational Neuroscience. Ha!

    Funniest Poster: LikeASong
Sergio has spat so much Guiness back out onto his keyboard due to laughter, it’s a wonder he can even still post. But, true to form, those who laugh the hardest can often make others laugh hardest as well. Here’s to many more years (read: one more U2start Awards) of spit-takes and broken keyboards!

    Runner-up: iTim

    Best Avatar: Welsh_Edge
It’s a well-known fact that The Edge almost quit U2 when Bono wouldn’t let him use a megaphone on the I&E Tour - he even tried to covertly escape the stage during ISHFWILF at the end of the opening night. Welsh_Edge pays respect to that ‘fallen’ guitar soldier with a priceless avatar.

    Username you don’t understand: dylbagz
Although dyl will probably stash his U2start Award away in his bagz, this may draw enough attention that he will finally, at long last, publicly explain his username. A reveal even more suspenseful than the U2start Awards themselves, get ready to speculate over and over only to probably be let down!

    Runner-up: WojBhoy
“Harry” was taken, so he had to switch up the order of the letters, and then change most of them entirely.

    Village Drunk: LikeASong
    “Affligem,
    Affligem or devil
    I was thirsty
    And you wet my lips”
    -LikeASong

    Runner-up: germcevoy
Although he started the thread, it’s been several months since Ger posted under the influence - but fear not. We believe Ger is still drunk, just accidentally stumbling into Coldplay forums by mistake.

    Prediction King/Queen - Alvin
Whether it is football World Cups, U2 setlists football leagues or tomorrow’s weather, if there is a guessing game be sure Alvin will be taking the prize home!

Most Likely to Actually Be Edge: anstratdubh1979
Jeff has perfected too many of Edge’s sounds for this to not be a conspiracy. He mostly posts in the guitar thread, just as Edge would, but we’re patiently waiting for the day he opens a thread to erupt on a rant about knit caps so we know for sure.

    Runner-up: Welsh_Edge
Retreating to U2start every time Bono slaps his hand away from a megaphone is too plausible of a situation to ignore. Keep your eye on this one.

    Sons of the Disappeared: patou2
Commemorated by reviews on roughly 98% of our bootlegs, patou2 is unfortunately absent as of late. We worry he may be trapped inside a very early, uncatalogued recording. Patou2, please restart and reboot yourself!!

Stuck in a Moment Award: Pleasegone
1997 was a sticky year, but while most of us scraped Pop off our sneakers by the time 2001 came around, pleasegone planted his feet and refused to take off his muscle shirt. We have to hand it to him though - PopMart is a pretty good moment to be stuck in.

    Runner-up: CraigFairlie
, of Glasgow, who is our favorite Glaswegian sharer of memories from the Glasgow stop on the I&E tour, which happened in Glasgow, Scotland. Glas. Gow.

    The Einstein Award: LikeASong
Whether it be history, advice, the science of alcohol, or just the U2start website in general, Sergio has always had the answers for us. We’ll continue to keep coming to him with all of our questions, so long as they aren’t about vynil.

Positivity Award: TIE - BigGirl & MacStripey
Another shared award, and it had to be to the Prom Queen and the runner-up! Kirsten and Joyce are well known for always having something nice to end (or start) a conversation; their manners are only overcame by their niceness; and overall they’re just the kind of girl you picture in your head just smiling all the time. Keep that positive vibes coming, you both!

    Die Hard Fan: MacStripey
Well, kind of self explanatory. Taking her Irish flag to every concert she attended (36 and counting, since 2005 to this 2017) and writing the date of each show with a black marker is only the icing on the cake. If you know Kirsten you’ll know U2 are a huge part of (and have played a big role in) her life, so this Award just couldn’t go to anybody else.

PS. We haven't chosen runner-ups for the categories where there was a tie, whether it was a tie for 1st or 2nd positions.

    --

Well, that does it for this edition of the awards. Now it's time for everyone's favorite part - the afterparty

    -Matt & Sergio
  2. Wow, I won something and it wasn't the Village Drunk!
  3. Questionable Taste in Music to DutchU2Fan: He puts Elevation as a top 3 U2 song. That's reason enough to win the award for life and retire it.
  4. At least I didn't win the "Don't go after me using the bathroom" award (The Office joke)
  5. And iTim not winning the Funniest Poster award is like Citizen Kane not winning the Oscar. Sorry Sergio.

    +1(00,000,000)
  8. did not expect to win any award at all... and now this one has me seriously perplexed but hey, I'll take it!

congrats to all the winners! loved the snarky comments for each

  9. [^ some talented person needs to do that with Bono's face pasted on]

Awesome stuff, congratumalations to everyone, I don't think I got a single one right! [edit: actually just noticed I did get one right]

Man, you've submitted your ballot yesterday.

That means after 4 months of opening the votings...

...And 2 weeks after closing it
  11. Thanks everyone who voted and participated in some way 13 votes plus Matt's and myself's were eventually received and counted. Too few if you consider how many people actually pushed us to do this once again, but enough to representate our 2017's boards!

Now, someone play a vynil and let's get this party going
