1. Really? I believed it was just in hippodrome.
  2. Out of 109 shows.
  3. 1987-06-17 Cologne, Germany
    1987-06-21 Basel, Switzerland
    1987-06-28 Dublin, Ireland
    1987-07-01 Leeds, England
    1987-07-04 Paris, France
    1987-07-11 Rotterdam, Netherlands
    1987-07-22 Munich, Germany
    1987-07-25 Cardiff, Wales
    1987-07-30 Glasgow, Scotland
    1987-08-01 Edinburgh, Scotland
    1987-08-03 Birmingham, England
    1987-08-08 Cork, Ireland

Interesting. For me it was just this particular show, maybe for some technical flaw. Does anyone know the reason for this? Have they talked about why?

Back then, Streets wasn't the live song that it's now. Easy as that

Also, even if it was a killer opener, it didn't open 22 of the JT gigs. It obviously didn't open the 12 shows you listed where it wasn't played at all, but neither these other 10:

    · 1987-04-22 - Los Angeles
    · 1987-05-04 - Worcester
    · 1987-05-09 - Hartford
    · 1987-05-16 - East Rutherford
    · 1987-06-13 - London
    · 1987-06-24 - Belfast
    · 1987-09-10 - Uniondale
    · 1987-09-11 - Uniondale
    · 1987-09-17 - Boston
    · 1987-09-22 - Foxborough

Probably because they wanted to open with something else. I saw them 10 times on the JT tour in '87 and I still clearly remember them opening with Stand By Me (followed by Pride) on the last night of the 5 night run in New Jersey . The house lights were left on . Thats because it was different from the other times I saw them that year . So the change was good.

But Streets was played in the encore thankfully .

And what an encore that was! It doesn't get much better than this:

Where the Streets Have No Name
    I Will Follow
With or Without You / Shine Like Stars (snippet) / Love Will Tear Us Apart (snippet)
    40

They did it quite a few more times over the tour (see post above). Usually the encore was that one I just listed, but sometimes they threw in Still Haven't Found or some other songs (Streets / Bullet / Running / WOWY / Party Girl / 40 in Wembley 2, what a run!).
  7. I know they stopped playing some of the more atmospheric tracks during Sept 1984 in Australia due to equipment integration issues during the live set.

I'd imagine Streets suffered the same date.
  8. I was always of the impression that the shows streets either didn’t open or appear were either the last concert of a long run, or (more commonly) because the show had to start in daylight to beat a curfew (summer in Europe) and they felt the impact of Streets with the red screen and lights was too diminished.
  9. Streets isn't a good opener.

They didn't start using full sequences until the first Unforgettable Fire shows in France, the early live appearance of the title track in Australia was all played in arpeggio by edge on keyboards from the bootlegs I've heard.

On the original Joshua Tree tour, Edge mentioned they still struggled with the timing of the opening of Streets so it was omitted at some shows.

  11. not yet, but it already sounded great, was the opening track of TJT and also a single. I'm sure people wanted to hear that song already back then.. so there was still every reason to play it.. so it must be something else
