1. tell me what you think of what the band will do while taking a rest period
  2. Not think about or play music, for one thing. At least at first. It all depends on what their future plans are- album? tour Australia, etc?...time will tell
  3. Reinvent themselves a la Achtung Baby? Almost definitely not. Come back with something very different sonically and/or thematically than SOE? More likely, but even so I think they’re probably going to be within the parameters of their 21st century sounds no matter what. I also think the themes of SOE - mortality, faith and crises thereof, family, commitments - are going to remain very present in their minds as they age.
  4. Hopefully they do nothing. Whatever comes to Australia next year is hopefully a condensed version of what NA and Europe got this passed four years.

Unless they’ve got some seriously good material in the bank then they need to take themselves off for a while then regroup and see what happens. Set no timetable and make no commitments.
  5. Take 3-4 years off.

Release another 'fan' album like Unreleased And Rare.

Tour maybe in Australasia and NZ late 2019.

Put out an album without commercial aspirations after they've had a break.

Re-group and be interesting for the first time since 2009.

Don't dream it all up again, just write up some quality songs again.

Agreed. Take a vacation, they deserve it. No commitments.
  7. Reinvent themselves? No. They have been on a constant regurgitative path in many aspects since 2001. Set to a formula. I cant see that changing. Could be wrong!

Zooropa is the album that stands out the most for diversity. A possible return to that territory maybe? That would certainly make for refreshing listening after these last four years. Take the signature elements of U2 and turn them on their head?

Adam may be the driving force in the future process given he is now an old dad (what is he now? nearing 60?) and may want to his see his daughter grow through the early stages. I know I would.

An Achtung Baby anniversary tour? Can't see that happening. Too close to the resurgence of JT2017. We had our fill of AB songs in the last few months.

Songs Of Ascent. That could see this whole cycle of the Songs Of... come to a conclusion. A way forward and to bring a closure to the cycle they have been in for the last few years. It would be good to see Australasia get the shows that could generate from such an album.

I have always held thought in this area after hearing about the Songs Of Ascent title. They could possibly work toward that release and a limited number of concerts rather than a full blown tour.

If that were not an option, then it will be a period of time for the band where they weigh it all up... Biggest band in the world right now, a fantastic history and output, a legacy of never disbanding or changing members, the platform it gives the LV for charity and aid to the world amongst a whole host of other reasons.

Or, stop. There is no reason, other than a love for what they do, that would necessitate a continuance. That alone will take time to navigate and give rise to anything new. Something totally removed from what may already be archived or sitting with them as pieces of recorded music (of which there must be plenty).

    To conclude, who knows?

I'm with you. They deserve a break now.
  9. What I'm hoping for is.

They deserve a break for now.

Maybe in 2019/2020 release a B side album with songs like Glastonbury, North Star, Boy Falls From The Sky, etc. on it.

In 2021 a new album, hopefully called Songs Of Ascent to complete the Songs Of Trilogy (all of their albums have been trilogies so far).

    In 2021 or 2022 a stadium tour.

After that a break and after a few years the final album (called Man), with songs on it looking back on their career.

And one last world wide goodbye tour.

Ofcourse I want them to do albums and tours until they die, but as many said they arent like the Stones.
  10. It’s interesting to consider what direction the band could go in for a potential future album. The last 2 albums have obviously been very personal and I could see them move away from that the next time round. The songs will always mean something to them and probably always relate but maybe not in such an obvious way next time.
