1. Hi Guys,
I had a few questions regarding the red zone (going for the Mumbai show)
    1) If gates open at 4, would it be wise to start lining up around 2 to get a good spot since the cap for red zone is usually 500 people from what I've read.
    2) If I go earlier to pick up my tickets are my chances of getting the backstage tour more likely?
    3) Is the outermost part of the tree the best place to stand during the show or would it be wiser to be at the end of the tree/on the ramp?
    4) Is the massive camera distraction still there?
    5) How interactive is the band with the RED zone? From videos I've seen Bono etc barely look/interact with the RZ side, but interact more with the GA side.
    Thanks in advance!!
Can't wait for the show (it'll be my first U2 gig)
  2. 1) If you want a rail spot, yes.
    2) No, its a lottery.
    3) Hmm that I don’t know, probably better in the middle before the camera. So the open section of the tree. Note that the tree is much bigger than 2017.
    4) Yes.
    5) They interact a bit (Adam and Edge) during the first few songs, after that its very minimal. Most interaction goes with those in front of them looking at the tip of the tree.
  3. I haven't been in Red Zone for JT myself.

But, yes, the boom camera is still there.

But Red Zone is larger now & extends a bit further, ending adjacent to the top of the tree (if that makes sense). So there may be a FEW spots on the rail at the tip that aren't obstructed by the boom camera (I haven't been there, so I'm unsure). These spots would go very quickly (less than 10 to get rail there).

Otherwise I'd aim for the junction of the catwalk & tree. Great view of the main stage action, plus close to the band on the tree-stage (mainly their backs though) & Bono very close for one song.

I certainly wouldn't aim for the other junction, between main stage & the catwalk, as the catwalk is VERY high here, obstructing the view of the main stage (notice Bono's mic in the far corner of the image).

    Here's a great video from 2017.

Note, as I mentioned, the GA top-of-the-tree rail now continues straight in the same direction (without the kink), to become the back rail of Red Zone).

This is a mock up of Mt Smart, where you can see the change, adding a few more rail spots near the top-of-the-tree.

Be aware that crazies have been doing the check-in system for Red Zone too. Starting lines extremely early in some cases! So, if this happens in Mumbai too, & if you want the very best spots, you may have to get there early. Which kinda defeats the purpose of Red Zone.
  4. Thank you for the info guys!
We'll probably try to get the middle section

what exactly is the check-in system? Is it a bunch of fans creating their own lines or something?
  5. Yes, that's exactly right. Starting a line early, listing the people in line. But letting everybody on the list leave, to come back & "check-in" occasionally (once or twice a day, over multiple days for GA, but no idea if they expect any check-ins at all for Red Zone).

Really, it's an unfair system, where the FIRST people there, are the first into the stadium, but they don't have to wait in line.

For Perth, if I remember correctly, I think someone started a line at 6am for Red Zone! Which is totally crazy. No doubt they left the line, went to their hotel, for lunch etc. Totally unfair system, that gets them to the front of the line with little waiting.

Who knows what will happen in Mumbai. But if you are near the stadium, I'd probably recommend stopping by to see if this type of thing is happening, if you want one of the best spots. Either join the line, or if you're a local & don't like it, try to get the authorities to stop it. The junction of the tree & catwalk is a great spot & no doubt popular too.
  6. Hi Ishi, I was in Singapore red zone yesterday, and this was my experience. Perhaps it helps 😊

I arrived at around 1400, because I always enjoy coming a bit early and get to know people. This time there was a numbering system in place, so I got one. You never know what it can be good for 😊 Just ask who the line leader is, put your name down, and get a number written on your hand.

After that, I waited quite a while to enter the security check (apparently, there weren't enough scanning devices, and they managed to lose the box with Red Zone tickets😁).

After security check, the red zone organiser will ask you to file a single line to pick up your ticket. This line doesn't have to be in the numbered order yet. You pick up your ticket, get your wristbands, and get a bit of information about the bar etc.

After that, we were asked to line up in the order of the numbers on our hands, and we were escorted into the standing pen, towards the red zone.

Here, it paid off to have a number: I was 39 and still had some good railspots to choose from. I opted for the diagonal railing right behind Edge's piano, to the left side of the boom camera. That's where I stood during the first five or six songs, and then I decided to move over to the far side of the main stage. That's where Bono comes out in the intro of Streets.

After that, I basically moved around throughout the entire RedZone. That's the real perk for me: they keep it half empty, so you can follow the action. So when I wanted to dance during Elevation, I moved towards the GA people. When I wanted to observe the screen, I moved back a bit (there's some seats in the fences too).

And if you take some time to get to know the people around you, you can basically go where you want to, and make some new U2 friends on the way.

If you want to know more, just ask.
