1. I saw Frankie back in the day. They could defiantly play live, although they did play along with a backing track. But the were powerful live. For most tv appearances they did mime, musically with sometimes live vocals. They finished their U.S tour only 3 weeks earlier, so they were more than gig ready. Shame though, because they could've squashed the rumours about not being able to play live, if they had been on the bill.
  2. Incredible watching it 40 years on,why did Bruce Springsteen and Michael Jackson not appear in USA?
  3. Apparently, some of the stage used at Live Aid was from the Springsteen set up.
  4. Very American isn't it? London was better in every way
  5. one thing I've always wondered was, where was the communication that 3rd song Pride is getting cut?

There's no way Bono is keeping track of time during his foray into the crowd, there's no indication that he looks over to the side stage clock, there's no indication any stage hand or crew talks to him to explain no time for 3rd song, there's not even any indication Bono communicates with rest of band as he grabs his white towel and walks off stage... without the band communication -what if Edge has started the intro harmonic notes thinking Pride was still happening - would Bono run back out?
We've seen him many times communicate right on stage with Edge about adding songs or cutting songs, so it just strikes me - when exactly was the decision made to cut it, or when/how were they formally told it was cut?

The funny thing is, even WITH the foray into the crowd, if they had ended Bad right when Bono returned to stage (and skipped all the snippets), it appears they would have had time for 3min50sec version of Pride
  6. It probably happened after the broadcast from London cut off. Bono leaving the stage is how Bad ended normally, as October folliowed, with Edge starting the song on the piano. Maybe at this point they still intended to do Pride but then were given a sign to stop.
I think we have to ask the band.

Maybe he actually clocked the traffic light system in place at side of the stage had gone red, which was the indication to get off stage.
  8. It certainly makes you wonder,Bono must've known it had run over but then again pride isn't exactly one of their longest songs, interesting someone saying there with all the snippets etc taken out they'd have had time.It didn't seem that long a set when watching the other day,Sade seemed to be on longer.

Denis Sheehan is very near Bono when he returns to the stage after his foray into the crowd he could have given him a signal off camera to finish also just when he starts singing Ruby Tuesday he looks back towards the stage and nods his head to someone like he's been given a signal that time waa up.
